Passport America and Weekends

Like the OP, we use private CGs on the weekends. Sure some do not let you use the discount when they are busy on the weekends, but many do. Yes, I've stayed in some dumps but all I wanted to do was dump:W and fill up with water.
I've also stayed in some really nice NEW parks that use PA to advertise, but in time they may limit weekend use. What do you expect for $40?

Well, I've stayed in my first two PA parks, and now I have a better idea about why they join the PA network. Neither park would have been on my radar otherwise. And they would have been very poor buys at the rack price. At the PA prices of $12.50 and $15.00 for simple overnight stays, they were okay. I guess. I'm sure there are better parks in the PA system, though!

Thanks to those of you who responded. As I indicated in my OP, I would not be using the PA parks as destinations, merely conveniences on my way through a region. Since I use public campgrounds during the week, I would only be using the PA parks on weekends when public campgrounds tend to be busy. A quick look through the PA parks shows plenty of choices that don't restrict on weekends so it would be a good deal.

Before joining PA, you need to review their site and look at the parks in the areas you're planning on travelling during the validity of the membership. Each park sets their own restriction(s). Some are more restrictive than others.

Some will allow you to use it all year long, some only Sunday to Thursday, some only for a few days out of a year. It's not a membership that you can buy and assume that you can use whenever you want to.

I've looked at the PA site as to whether it would be worth it for us. We are weekend warriors ape it have couple of weeks during the summer for vacation. Most places we have gone thus far, do not accept PA. And ones that do take it, normally do not allow you to use it on the weekends. So for us right now, it's not a worthwhile investment. However, when we decide to do our vacation next summer, we may look at it again and the park(s) we may visit. Then it may be worth the savings we may receive during the week. But as of the last few years, the places we go for a week have been destination type places and they do not need to accept it.

Every park makes it's own standards as to when the discount is honored. I have never had any problem getting into an RV parking lot on a weekend but on occasion they will want you to pay for both nights (whether you stay or not). I move on down the road when I encountered this. MOST caviats enforced by RV park members are listed in the catalog but it's often a good idea to call ahead and ask before traveling out of your way to get somewhere.
