The Value of a Friendly Staff

We had a similar experience at American Heritage RV Park in Williamsburg, VA. It had been a long trip down due to traffic and it was unbearably hot. Being the pasty white Yankee I am, my heat tolerance is ZERO. The site they originally put us on was a bit tight and the park was not very busy, so we asked if we could be moved. While in the office I commented (well, complained actually!) that it was so hot and they IMMEDIATELY put us on a site underneath the trees. These were premium sites designed for huge Class A rigs, but they wanted me to be as comfortable as possible. And they never once stopped smiling, never made me feel like I inconvenienced them, and when ANY staff member saw me they checked to make sure I was OK.

Because of the owner's I decided to go seasonal at their campground. They were very accommodating which led to my decision.

I would say attitude plays a big role in the success of a campground.

This is so true and such good advice. And yet there are so many people that are running RV Parks that project (knowingly or not) a disgruntled "you've interrupted me" attitude toward customers.

There are even some on this site who run RV parks who make me wonder how they treat customers when they don't have sense enough to be more circumspect in how they respond to some posts.

Having owned and operated a Hotel in a resort area of SE Asia with an international clientele I can tell you with certainty that you will have serious customer service challenges from time to time...but your goal every day is TO MAKE FRIENDS not enemies, yet that simple dictum seems to escape so many.

Good feeling if you're coming in tired from the road. I've had everything from friendly staff to machine like check ins. No outright grouchy staff yet.

It also is the best way to build a base of return customers!

Many sins can be forgiven if they make you feel like you are welcome and cared for. Doesn't matter what the company type is.

You know, I stayed at a CG a couple of weekends ago that I would normally rate pretty low on rvparkreviews.com. However, the people who ran the place were extraordinarily nice, upbeat, and genuinely friendly people. Those people changed my entire outlook on the place.

I met such a person at the Mt. Pleasant, SC. KOA. I was pretty tired after missing the entrance on the south side of US17 because S&T had it on the north side. I had to find a place to turn around in downtown Charleston at 5PM. When I checked in and told the lady my story, she felt my pain and assigned me to a site away from the sound (mosquitos), away from the playground (kids playing) and out from under the big Oak trees (playful squirrels armed with acorns).
The guy checking in at the same time was pretty surly. He got all that fun stuff.
We talked later. She told me she saved that spot for people such as him. He left the next day. I stayed a week and got some great restaurant tips and a free parking pass for Patriot's Point.

In ANY business, if your front person is warm and welcoming, things are guaranteed to go so much more smoothly for everybody. I've been in business seminars where the presenter made a point of saying you need a seriously warm/fuzzy person answering the phone and greeting customers, and if you aren't that way, hire somebody who is. Yet how seldom do we find those folks doing that job?
