Hello holstein13...Are you planning to go beyond Carlsbad? Posters are starting to give information beyond Carlsbad.
If I may be seen bold . . . I'm doing the reverse. Leaving So Cal, heading east. Here's the route I will likely be taking, but I've reversed it to your direction of travel. 90 out of San Antonio (please see my previous post) to Anthony, New Mexico. We'll spend a few days in Benson, visiting those caverns, etc. Great desert RV park in Tonopah. Going into LA can mean a lot of different places, but you will want to time your arrival around commuter traffic. And, if possible, use the 210. I'd suggest you spend at least one night at Pechanga RV Resort in Temecula (Passport America midweek). Then head into LA from there. rvparkreviews.com will offer good park choices. - aerbus32Explorer III'm currently looking at options for routes from So Cal to the Gulf Shores and beyond. I remembered this thread. Liked the sound of avoiding the drive between Ft. Stockton & Junction. But I also take it at a much more leisurely pace. I'm looking at spending a few days in Alpine, then Del Rio. Both appear to have good parks.
Thanks for the inspiration, guys! - holstein13Explorer

I'll take your word for it. I don't want to overwhelm them with my four visitors.
Don't forget to visit The Tree. West Texas' biggest and greatest attraction is The Tree. More than three people visit annually. It's a "Must Stop" on your itinerary.

I'm quite certain you are joking, but let me know if you are serious. - jgrimesExplorerIn addition to sights around Kerrville and Fredricksburg, we enjoyed several days at south llano river state park at junction tx. We also stayed a night at the passport america park in ft stocton. The was marginal, but safe, adequate and reasonably priced.

I would also say see the Boneyard at Pima Air and Space Museum.

If you get thru the Midland/Odessa area, there is a wing of the Conferderate Airforce Museum. They're moving it to Dallas, so if this is something you're interested in, I would suggest calling to make sure they are still operating. When I was there a few years back, it probably took me 6 hours to get thru it because there is ALOT of history and they had the biggest collection of bomber nose art.
Camping in the area might be kinda tough. The oilfields in that area have experienced a significant boom over the last 4-5 years and there are experiencing a tight motel/campground situation.
Several landowners have created man camps where the oilfield workers just park their trailers in converted "campgrounds" and are making a fortune.
