- RGar974417ExplorerWe stayed at Chippokes Plantation State park which is across the river from Jamestown. Water and electric hookups. One section is new. Free ferry across river.
- RoyFExplorerAnother vote for Newport News park. Besides a nice campground, there are lots of things that might interest the kids: hiking trails, a lake, and who-knows-what else. It's a big park designed with lots of community activities in mind. (Stayed there once.)

We are considering a trip where we will spend several days in each area, and we're hoping for recommendations. We generally prefer state/county/national parks to private cg's, but that is not a deal breaker. We have a 38 foot 5th wheel. We need at least 30 amps. We are traveling with 2 teenagers:E. Thanks in advance.
Teenagers, OH MY! :B Check out Bull Run Regional Park They have a cool water park that would probably score points with your kids! lots or civil war stuff in the near by area, plus metro is about 15 minutes away if I remember.
Good luck and have fun!
Mike - jplante4Explorer IIWe stayed at the Williamsburg KOA. It was ok. They have discount tickets for most attractions.

You didnt say when your travelling, but if in a couple of weeks, Newport News park is great, about 20 minutes from Williamsburg, easy access, and on Nov 23 they start their Parade of Lights which is a gorgeous display. Open year round, water and elec.
I forgot to mention we will be traveling the week after Easter for spring break. - kerrlakeRooExplorerYou didnt say when your travelling, but if in a couple of weeks, Newport News park is great, about 20 minutes from Williamsburg, easy access, and on Nov 23 they start their Parade of Lights which is a gorgeous display. - md_procoupleExplorerNot sure about the state parks... a lot of them have closed for the season in the mid-atlantic area for the season, I think Cherry Hill is still open, and they have a regular bus stop on the property that takes you into DC. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!
- DrewEExplorer IIFor DC, if you can do without the electricity, I strongly recommend Greenbelt National Park. It's just inside the beltway in Greenbelt, MD, and is maybe a half hour to 45 minute walk to the Metro station, and from there the world's your oyster--or at least, the city is. At $16 per night, at least when I was there last year, it's very affordable. Cherry Hill campground is in the same neck of the woods and offers much fancier amenities for a good bit more money; it gets consistently good reviews.
Lake Fairfax Park, in Reston, VA, is also pretty close to the Metro (Wiehle-Reston East), close enough to be reasonable to walk to the station. They have hookups there.
