There were hundreds of RV's at mile 99 this year... a brown Winnie was far too vague, you'd need GPS coordinates to find them. LOL! - HarleybulletExplorerHey guys....I just reminded myself that I know a couple who attend the Ham outing at mile 99. - SCVJeffExplorerWe did several things we've not done in the past. Spent probably an hour at the Hi-Jolly/ Quartzsite Cemetary this morning. There are "headstones", some from wood, back to the mid. 1800's, others with markers long gone. Lots of miners early on, and more military into the 1940 &50's. This was practice grounds for Pattons tanks around the war, so that makes sense. There is a nice walking "tour" of the place and as much background on the residents as someone's research could provide. Something new every year
- dons2346ExplorerI agree, Q is what you make it. We have been going for 17 years and this is the first year we made it to the "bookstore". What a hoot. Lots of very nice books that are wrapped in plastic to protect them from the Q dirt. Must have been a little cool for the owner as he had on socks and a jacket.
- NinerBikesExplorerWell, I attended the ARRL Ham Radio Annual QuartzFest. It's on the south side of town, at mile marker 99, on the West side of the highway. I had a tremendous amount of fun attending the event, the seminars, the Pot Luck dinners, and the people. Q this year was unseasonably cold and windy, by all other standards and years I have been here. But I had simply the best time while I was here. I ALWAYS meet great people and characters down in this area that LOVE the outdoors, LOVE to CAMP, and love to share their interests with you, no matter how big or small your budget. Drooled over some Prevosts at the show, some of them with new owners. Had a 3 o'clock social hour with some folks where we were staying, and a pot luck dinner. But mostly, I just had A LOT of fun. As always, the Q is what you make of it. Go out there and get some of it, while the getting is good.
- HarleybulletExplorerI just read all 19 pages and it sure makes me a little sad I did not make it this year. We have been there for 5 years in a row but this year just did not feel up to the drive from NY. Everything mentioned I can picture and enjoyed. We usually stay at Scaddam wash from New Years till I need to dump and then move over to South on 95 for 2 weeks, take in everything and just chill out....go to parker and stay at the Bluewater casino with our TC, stay over, take in a movie and watch the desert races. All in all cannot wait to go back...see you there next year.
PS have a way of getting to the big tent if I take it along...just hooled up an electric motor to our 2 seater Schwinn...hehehe - SCVJeffExplorerThere were nightly fireworks at the west end of town all week. On Friday and Sat was a KCBS sanctioned BBQ contest with a $50,000 purse along with a classic car show, etc. They're trying to breathe some new life into this place to attract back folks despite the moronic idiots on the city council (google Quartzsite and you will find a treasure trove of info on these jerks).
We were planning on going to the BBQ but it's been unusually cold this week, so... Hopefully they will be back next year with better promotion.
Sunday Wx Report:
Slight breeze from the north but short sleeve wx on the back side of the motorbike and not a cloud in the sky. Xtal clear air too... - pnicholsExplorer IIFireworks? What's the celebration/event reason for them?
We've never seen them there and weren't even aware that they had them. - MrWizardModeratorLooks like palm trees
Some of the people are genius - vermilyeExplorerWe even have fireworks! They did a lot more on Friday night than Thursday when I took this:
