- happybooker1ExplorerInks Lake -- we go,twice every summer. Memorial Day & Labor Day. Well-run park, Rangers are on top of EVERYTHING, clean restrooms/showers. Son likes to fish, hike, & explore. Oh & jump off the cliff at Devils Waterhole. Mom gets to float.
Garner. Love love love it. I'm just happy to take my lawn chair down to Rocky Beach every day & in the shade of the giant cypress trees dabble my feet in the Frio & read my book.
Brazos Bend-- tons of things to do. We try to go in the fall or spring. Love to take a hike around the lake looking for 'gators during the day. Do the Star Party thing at the George Observatory on Saturday night. Never gets old.
These are our 3 faves. We try others but keep coming back to these. - DesertHawkExplorerWe enjoyed a couple of stays at Balmorhea State Park, located in the foothills of the Davis Mountains southwest of Balmorhea and nearby Fort Davis. A favorite because of the uniqueness of the huge spring feed pool with a modern-like swimming pool attached to it. A natural pool which is deep enough for scuba diving. All in very arid West Texas. Not really a super lush campground, but neat place.
We had a great time at South Llano River State Park which adjoins Walter Buck Wildlife Management Area, south of Junction. Very beautiful setting, the South Llano River to play in (nice clear water, rocky bed) what's not to like. We even canoed to Junction.
The great waterfall(s) & neat wooded campsites at Pedernales Falls State Park in Blanco County east of Johnson City made a great stay as well. Neat day trips to Johnson City, LBJ's Ranch, the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site & Fredericksburg made it very rewarding. Yep, a favorite.
Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site, located west of Comstock near Langtry in Val Verde County, not been to it but seems pretty neat. I have this one on my to see list someday. Likewise,
Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway would make a neat place to check out. One I would like to see.
Haven't been to too many and has been many years since camping in them. - Home_SkilletExplorer IILake Livingston State Park.
Excellent fishing, well kept grounds. - FordDiesel250ExplorerWe like Atlanta state park, Caprock Canyon state park, Tyler state park and Ray Roberts state park. As you can see we prefer to stay at state parks but we also like to stay at Corp of Engineer parks too.
- jjjandrbakerExplorerPalmetto SP is my favorite of the ones I've been to, but I have liked all of them. Next week, I am leaving for a 10 night trip spending two nights at each of 5 state parks, four of them that I haven't been to: South Llano River SP, Lake Brownwood SP, Meridian SP, and Mother Neff SP. I'll end up at Lockhart SP for some BBQ.
- wtmtnhikerExplorerI vote for Palo Duro Canyon State Park, it's spectacular!!
- mockturtleExplorer IIAside from my favorite, Big Bend National Park, I like Guadalupe River SP, Fort Davis SP and Goose Island SP the best, I think. McKinney Falls SP is a good place from which to explore Austin. Goliad SP is unusual and nice, too.
- sdianel_-acct_cExplorerLake Texoma Burns Run East Corps of Engineers park. Full hookup sites on the lake. Sites 32-39. Denison TX on OK/TX border.
Balmorhea State Park, Balmorhea TX. Beautiful spring, near Davis Mountains.
The Vineyards Campground in Grapevine TX. On Grapevine Lake, so much to do in the area.
Get the TACO Texas Campgrounds book for discounts on commercial parks.
Look up corps of engineers parks on www.recreation.gov - TrlrboyExplorerTake a look at Lake Whitney SP. Beautiful, limestone lake that's perfect for swimming. The 30A area is right near the water and easy access to swim. The FHU 50A area is all shaded. Great park.
- GizmosMomExplorerIf you want scenic with just water and electricity (Dump station in park) one of our favorites is San Augustine Park .
Also Oak Thicket Park near LaGrange/Fayetteville.
We like the parks in the woods...not so much standard RV Parks. We also like to fish and enjoy parks on the water.
Also, Abilene State Park is very nice. Lots of shade.
