It's RV sites are not that great but if you want to get away in a quiet park during the busy season, it works.
Just spent the 4th at Mother Neff. I really liked it. The trails are very nice. I took a hike with one of the rangers, and she showed us where they are building a new campsite with pull throughs and full hook ups in the prairie section of the park. Construction starts this month.
Nice to know they're finally getting started on the new sites up the hill at Ma Neff. Last time I hiked up there it was just a bunch of survey stakes, and a playground. - LindaAnnExplorerBesides Big Bend, which is one of our most favorite places ever, we liked Tres Rios RV Park in Glen Rose, Texas--3 rivers come together there, one so shallow and clear you can walk it in! We loved the area--Dinosaur State Park (dinosaur tracks); Fossil Rim Wildlife drive-thru park (my husband and I loved the giraffes, zebras, all kinds of deer/elk and an ostrich who was patrolling as we entered and as we left); nearby towns of Hico (Billy the Kid museum) and Dublin (home of Dr Pepper).
Also, Glen Rose has an amphitheater and they have a production of "The Promise"--we were there one September.
I have relatives all over Texas and so we've made numerous trips--it is one of our favorite states! - jjjandrbakerExplorer

It's RV sites are not that great but if you want to get away in a quiet park during the busy season, it works. Very close to I-35/Waco.
- BonefishExplorerI have not found one state park, LCRA or COE we did not like in TX. We have been to many of them over the last 12 yrs and different times of the seasons. Just got back from Davis Mts. SP and it was very hot, the trees are so stressed from no rain. It rained all around us just not in the park. Outside of TX we have enjoyed Burns Run East. Last year in July we went to Ft Cobb SP, OK had a great time. I was happy to see water & trees.

Purtis Creek State Park
Lake Bob Sandlin State Park
Big Bend National Park - tatestExplorer IIDavis Mountains SP for the relatively dark skies, though one camper can still ruin that.
