Attaching String Lights to a WeatherPro Awning

I'd like to attach decorative string lights to my AE WeatherPro Power Awning but don't want to compromise its operation. I noticed that the end fittings do not rotate and the exterior faces of the main vertical-to-horizontal arms at each end are not involved in retracting the awning.

With the awning open: I'd like to run 1/8" nylon parachute cord from an adhered hook at the in-board end of the horizontal arm to the out-board end, lash it to the end fitting, and then drape it horizontally across the out-board face of the awing to the other end fitting, lash it there, and then back to an adhered hook at the in-board end of the arm.

I could then lace, clip or zip-tie the string lights to the nylon cord.

Any thoughts.
  • Buy some badge clips and attach them to the string of lights. Then just clip the lights to the fringe part of the awning using the badge clips.

We used binder clips to hang lights off to front of the awning, works great. 1.00 AT 99 cent store for pack of 8
  • Thanks, the binder and badge clips are a good idea. I've used badge clips to make a hat leash when sailing. I have just closed my office and have 100's of binder clips.

I'm reluctant to attach to the fringe of the awning, in case the wind comes up and the awning automatically retracts.

I forgot to mention we used the binder clips on our old manual awning. Our new automatic awning has the strip light underneath.
  • Binder clips rust really quickly and can leave stains on the awning.
  • Attach it permanently to the RV under the rolled up awing and you can use the lights when the awning is closed or open.
