    Thanks for the pictures.
My idea would be to use weather proof Velcro to attach flexible skirting.

I had thought of that solution also,
but had fears of it NOT sticking where attached etc,
reason for the HD Dot snaps replacing the OEM screws used for the trim around the TH.

Also thought of VHB type of tape, but didn't known if the velcro world stick where applied,
and the removeal of the other half of velcro numerous times etc.

    Looks like a viable option,
but there is only one problem with the over head cover,
I can't use my solar install that way. :E

Unless I made the overhead cover out of solar PV panels?? ;)

And a second problem around here is,the MICRO Burst winds we get,
that cover would last less than week before it would be blown into your part of the world etc.

We don't have ANY of the tall green stuff around, only 4' high sage brush at best. :B

    Thanks,
    Don

IMHO, it was worth it, as we use the Toy Hauler for a base camp from Sept thru last day of Feb for our hunting and trapping seasons etc, have used that skirting in -20* temps several times and NEVER had anything freeze, yet, like forgetting the 5 gal water jugs outside over night and then java time came in the AM, had to do without, until they thawed out in the bath tub. :S

Ah heck, why not go full tilt and cover the top as well! :B

Pic from MacGregor Point Provincial Park, along the shores of Lake Huron in Ontario, which runs a winter camping program Nov 1 - Apr 30, where overnight temps can easily dip below -30C. :E

    Camp on! :B

  • Nice work on a pretty good looking system!

We use skirting around an old travel trailer when Whitetail hunting in Northern MN. It sure does improve the comfort level. Before skirting, we had all the milk and juice stored under a bed platform freeze one year.

I did find out that by using the skirting, that the TH was a lot warmer and made the experiences better. :B
We are a 4 season family and now will have a COMPLETE 4 season TH, once the solar mod is finished.

Several times we had 6"+ of snow on the ground which we had set up on, (had the choice of camp spots) :B and because of the gen set motor heat being directed underneath by the motor fan, the snow was gone in less than a day via using the skirting which trapped the heat underneath etc.

The skirting also reduced the furnace run time by 50%+, and that is the reason I elected to do my ongoing solar mod, that I hope to understand and get installed ASAP.

I went thru several 30 gal LPG refills, and finally got a 100 gal LPG bottle and that cut the refilling down to a couple of times, leaving the OEM 2-30gal bottles as a back up etc..

  • GREAT job, but way too much work for me! The one year I skirted our hybrid I used the cheapest chipboard I could find, with a little bit of 1"x framing and nylon cable ties to hold the panels in place. I only used it one winter but could have easily gotten several out of that skirting had we kept that trailer longer.
