Replace Day/Nigh shades with ??????

My TT is 10 years old and since I am a FTer showing dirt and wear/tear. I am looking for ideas to replace them along with the cloth covered header over the shades. DW is NOT into sewing.

Suggestion with photos are very welcome.. . . . :h

  • MCD roller shades. Pricey but very nice. I have them on every window on our Montana. Nice to take a nap during the day and have it dark inside.
  • And with mini blinds you can block the sun and still have a breeze through the open window.

Mini Blinds here with curtain valances. The OP is looking at a TT, not a MH, don't ride in a 5er or TT when traveling so no noise issues.

The nice thing with mini blinds is that you can block sunlight on hot days, and still see out!
  • I put mini blinds in just this spring and glad to get rid of the day/night shades. As far as noise we draw them up all the way and don't hear any noise from the blinds.
  • We got rid of our day nights shades and installed cordless cellular pleated shades. We have black out shades in the bedroom so no more light coming through all those tiny holes (right into my eyes!) and no light at all coming through. The rest of the coach has a beige color (white is also available) so some light comes through but we really rarely close them during the day anyway!
Best upgrade to our coach ever!
We got ours at Menards and they were a simple self-install if you are just a tiny bit handy.
While most RVers would not care, the cellular blinds also provide a great deal of insulation between the glass and the interior both in the heat of day or the cold of Winter. The difference is very noticeable between the blinds being up or down.
  • To each their own. For us, when our day/night shades wear to a point they need replacing, it's back to mini blinds for us. Just like we had in our previous RV.
  • I just replaced bedroom and bathroom day/night shades wit metal mini-blinds. Really like them, only drawback, they do collect dust.

In one motor home I had, the previous owner installed cellular shades, I call them honeycomb. They were fantastic, only drawback...up or down.

I very seldom use the day part anyway, so my next replacements in dining and living area will be the honeycomb.

  • I'll just give you "my" reasons I decided to stay with the day/night shades. For you to think about before you rip your day/night shades out!:W

I prefer the day/night shades simply based on what they can do that drapes or blinds can not do.

While I was waiting for my day/night shade to be repaired what I did was buy an adjustable shower rod. It fit perfectly in the window. And then I just picked up room darkening drapes from the dollar store. So no one could see in at night.

Well after a week of that, made me a believer of the day/night shades.

With drapes you need the room darkening drapes for at night so no one can see it but during the day if you close them to keep the sun out you are now living in a dark cave. Open them and you are living in a fishbowl open for everyone to see in. The day/night shades offer you both options the drapes could not.

I also tried blinds on one window, which drove me crazy with their rattling when driving down the road. So bad, that I pulled over and ripped them out threw them in the garbage at a rest area somewhere in Georgia of I-75!!! :B

Just saying. I think day/night shades have their deserved place in an RV. :C
