Stopping peeping Toms!

Our new Winnebago Vista has a side hallway that includes a large picture window. The other windows on the coach have side guards that trap the pulldown shades and also block any sideways view into the coach. Apparently Winnebago was concerned with the narrow hallway and that guards like the other windows have would be likely to be hit by people walking the hallway (they stick out about 4 1/2 inches). This meant when the shade was down, you could see into the coach, through the small gap at an angle, especially at night. I was able to build a workable guard with 1 1/2" aluminum angle (and small brackets) from one of the home center stores. I spray painted them to closely match the 'wallpaper'. The only casualties were the two knobs that open the small tilt-outs at the bottom of the window. I was able to remove the screw and take them off...we rarely use them as they are so small to be not much value. If we HAVE to open them, I keep the knobs in a drawer and they can be just slipped on to operate the window. I did have to cut the small screws that attach the bracket to the angle flush with the bracket so the shade would not catch on them.

  • Yeah,, thats why I have all of my LED decorative lights going all night!! Tough to see in when the reflection of my yard lights blocks it!! And you all that say the outside perimeter lights are worthless,,HA! There's a reason! Also,, my dog would love to come out and see what your looking at!!
Second of all,, where we camp,, if you look in and see me running around naked,,,and stop to get a closer look,, Just knock! Most likely the door is not locked! I guarantee ALLOT of alcohol has been been consumed if your getting a show thru my trailer windows!!
  • My opinion is if they see something they don't like they shouldn't be trying to look in. I could care less what people see. Other than that the mod was well done and a great idea to get rid the oversized valances.
  • I ended the see thru bedroom window problem by buying a tension shower rod.

The rod fits perfectly and snug 'under' the cardboard RV valance out of sight.

Then I purchased a set of light blocking curtains. Problem solved without drilling or velcro'ing.

During the day you just push the curtains to the side. They do not interfere with the day/night shades either.
  • I think the OP was being creative in wording his title and thread, when he really was offering to share his Mod.

It looks like a pretty good mod, good job! ;)
  • best way to block there view in the first place is very heavy drapes.
