OK, I do not want to start anything, but it has been my observation tha Ford & GM upgrade their ½ ton pick ups to have their 2500/250 models, and there are concerns about overloading them. Dodge on the other hand takes their 3500 trucks and "downgrades them" to get their 2500 models. My 2500 has the same engine, transmission, rear end, frame and brakes as the 3500 in that model year. The difference is the wheels and tires. Check their capacities and you should be ok. Upgrade if necessary , and if you still need to add an extra leaf or two in your rear, (I.e. 3500 spring package). 1800 lbs. pin weight should be no problem. Good Luck!
Could you provide anything to support your off the wall statements? They are some of the strangest statements I have read here recently. My HO engine is a upgrade only available in a 3500 with the Aisin Tranny updage.
RAM just chose to take the two platforms in different directions. Because a class 2 truck is limited to 10k GVWR, there was no need for a heavier rear suspension, as they are limited by such high tare weights. So they went for a cushy ride. Some 2500 owners have a hard time understanding this, Thinking bandaids make them into 3500 vehicles. Are you satisfied with your Hemi ?
Overall, yes... for a gas truck it delivers a lot of power. I'm towing a 10,500# 5th and wouldn't want to go much heavier. But, I have the 3.73 gears and live out west with lots of hills. The 4.10 rear end would be better but not by a huge margin I don't think.
I'm thinking of jumping to a diesel but the main problem is I don't want the leaf springs in the 3500 (too harsh as a daily driver) and don't want to spend 60K to buy a truck I know I'm going to overload (2500 with coils). I'll likely live out the summer with the gasser and see what the new offerings for 2017 are. Ford and Chevy/GMC are both planning a redesign I believe.
Im guessing the jump to leafs really depends on the model ? My 3500 rides like a Cadillac unloaded and hardly settles with a little over 2K of hitch weight in the bed - mtofell1Explorer

What 5th wheels are you towing ? My Columbus 340rk states 1800 lb pin weight , which shouldn't be a problem .
The rest of the story;
2014 Palomino Columbus 340RK Specifications
Technical Specifications:
Length 36'-6"
Dry Weight 10,905#
Payload Capacity 3,075#
GVWR (lbs/kgs) 13,980#
Hitch Weight 1,980#
You didn't state the year this is the closest I could find.
The 1,800# pin is lite for the weight of the rig about 18 percent. That should increase to at least 2,500# (20 percent of 12,500#) this assumes you only load to 12,500#.
Still doable for a 2500, if you decide to run over GVWR. That is your decision. - Fire_InstructorExplorerAbout $12,200..... Depends on what optional features you want. Still MUCH cheaper than trading in my 2500 for a 3500 DRW, that I really didn't want!
- thecdnmoleExplorerCurious, what is the cost for this device?

1800 is printed on tag on trailer . Fire Insructer are you towing 3000 lb pin weight with a 2500 ?
Ummmm... Yes, and no....
I towed it home from the dealership that way (empty) so I was maxed-out with the traier and the hitch weight. (But this was the floorpan that the boss REALLY wanted, so if I needed to upgrade the truck, so be it.)
Since then, I've found, researched, talked to owners, and have ordered an Automated Safety Hitch. I pick it up in two weeks. Expensive, but no where near what a 3500 DRW would have cost, and I REALLY didn't want a wider, fiberglass fender DRW..... - Fire_InstructorExplorer

I saw one of these last month, and was very impressed with the heavy duty construction. You get your whole truck bed back, but it extends your total length by 8'
But in turning, it actually makes your trailer seem SHORTER, as the truck pivots in the truck axle, and the ASH turns OUTWARD from the direction of the turn, and keeps the trailer tires more in line with truck tires. - garyp4951Explorer III
