2015 Jayco Eagle HT - 29.5 BHDS or 29.5 FBDS? - Comments

Looking at these two units for possible purchase. Anyone have either of these units and can comment on likes/dislikes, quality, reliability, etc?

So, after several years of not RVing, we have decided that now is the time to return to RVing. We reside in SoCal.

Travel plans: primarily SoCal with some trips to AZ, Utah, NV and other destinations within 1-2 days of driving one way. Typically trips will be 2-5 days 3-5 times per year (when kids are off school). We may take one longer trip for two weeks in the summer. Would love to see more of our great country when time allows; perhaps a trip through the south and to Disney World in one of our two week summer trips.

We are a family of 5: Me (age 52) DW (age 47), DS(age 10-with Autism); DS (age 15); one furry friend (mini Schnauzer). Granny may accompany on occasions.

We have owned 2 TT (24', 32'); one 5er (30'); and one Class A ('89 Bounder with 460).

We have mowed over the cost/benefit/usage/comfort/maintenance analysis of TT, 5er, Class C, and Class A until we reached paralysis! The consensus seems to be a 5er for our intended uses. Sometimes the analysis doesn't come out in favor of economic efficiency....but comfort, safety, and enjoyment are priceless when your kids are getting older (and parents are getting older too!) and the time you have with them is limited. Our 10yo will probably be with us until we can longer care for him and he will join us on ALL adventures well into the future!

Thanks in advance!

Below is a link to both if anyone would like to comment on the floor plans, standard equipment, etc

  • We have friends who have a trailer with bunks like those in the BHDS. Loved them. And the outside kitchen would be really nice.

If you're going to be keeping this one for a while, you may want to look at the Eagle line. As I recall, The floor was kind of spongy as they used a lighter grade of plywood (less thickness?). saves on the weight but felt weird underfoot with the floor flexing.
Whatever you go with, get the one with the biggest bunks. The kids won't stay small (or short) forever

Just checked Jayco website.....Eagle and Eagle HT both have.....

    5/8” tongue-and-groove joined plywood flooring
  • I know this isn't the model you're looking at but we have a 2014 Jayco Eagle HT 27.5 BHS currently and the bunk beds are quite roomy. Overall, the 27.5 BHS has been trouble-free and very comfortable. I think you'll be happy with the larger 29.5 dual slide model.

  • Thanks for the input Jeremiah. Yes, I will tow with my 1992! Love the truck. It only has 62K miles original. I have replaced many parts recently to prepare for the towing she will do.
  • I have not owned these RV's but I took my two sons, 11 and 13, with me to check them out. They both liked the BHDS better. The bunk beds are bigger and was easier for them to get in and out of.

Never mind that the outside kitchen on the 29.5 BHDS is one of the best I have seen :)

    TIFWIW..

BTW..will you pull it with the 92? That's a great body style, one of my favorites.

    Thanks!
