What makes you think the tailgate was closed. It sure looks like it was open. The way I read it was they were set up and pulled out only to notice it was leaning/coming down and tried to back under it to save it. Now, why it failed is still a mystery. You would think the OP would have spoke with them and have some sort of insight to add.

Clearly stated that it WAS on the Landing Gear. The question is did the gear just collapse, was it on soft ground, or were the wheels UN-chocked at that time (now chocked in pictures)!

I just wish we could back on track and learn from this unfortunate event. How did it happen? What's the "rest of the story"?

To me it looks as though somebody may have been distracted and pulled out with the landing gear still up. But to land on the tailgate instead of the rails, he must've had to have been pulling out fairly fast. Just my guess though.

In any event it's really a shame to see damage like that especially because it sure looks like it was preventible.

Well I was only pointing that out because you know I have NEVER misread a post, or posted a reply that was difficult to comprehend, or completely missed what the OP had written!!! :R :S :B

I just wish that Dtaylor, the OP would fill in the rest of the story, this is like watching Alfred Hitchcock you are left hanging waiting for the real rest of the story.
Did the LG just collapse, or did the 5er roll (wheels chocked in pictures there before or after) just a good Hitchcock mystery. :h
