Andersen Ultimate plug location

For those towing with an Andersen Ultimate, where do you have your 7 way plug? I am getting my gooseneck ball installed tomorrow, and I want to make sure where they place my plug will not interfere with the Andersen hitch or with RV when it turns.

Mine in the exact position as this one. Works very well, and no issues.
With that said, shouldn't be any different that a regular 5'r hitch.
  • Nothing unique about the Andersen when it comes to where u mount your 7-way. Same as any other 5er hitch
  • Mine is at the front of the bed by the cab. It's a little too far forward as I now have to use an extension on my trailer cable to reach it. The reason the installer suggested it by up front is that if you put a 4 wheeler in the bed, often the 4 wheeler will destroy the plug if it is in the back.

  • My FIL still has his on the bumper. Has never had any kind of issue except when he forgot to unplug it. He insists on zip tying it so it pulled all the wires out of the J box on the trailer

  • If it was me, I'd mount just inside the tailgate, if there's room. Easier to get too. If you mount ahead of the rear wheel, your might need a ladder just to plug in the cord because there trucks are getting so tall. When I had a truck with 5th wheel, I had the plug ahead of the rear wheel well. I hated it. Every time it rained you had to reach over the bed rail to plug in the cord and you'd wet. Just something to think about.
  • When I had my 2012 Ram I mounted the plug up front just slightly ahead of the wheel well, it was ok there but had to climb on tire to get it plugged in. On my 15 Ram I had the 5th wheel prep with it and the plug is mounted just ahead of rear post behind the wheel well as seen in Cummins12V98's post, much easier to get to and out of the way. When I bought my Reese hitch for my 2012 it came with an adapter harness that's plug and play from the rear wire harness ahead of the actual plug so you'd still have bumper plug to wherever you wish to mount the new plug.

You are always going to run into those that want the plug between the wheel well and the tailgate or between the wheel well and the front of the truck bed...

Either place is fine as long as you mount in the recessed area...

You should have enough length on the fifth wheel cable to fit either place. My fifth wheel setup went to the standard 7-way connection near the truck rear trailer hitch hookup without any issues...

  • As said above but up high and close to the tailgate so you can reach in to plug.

  • In the bed of truck. Driver side half way between the front and the wheel well.
