How old is this? What you have here is a response from someone at Lippert that is mistaken. ts obvious from their response they are incorrectly putting it in the “GN adapter” category which it is NOT. A little education/research goes a long ways... Lippert is not denying warranty on the Andersen here. They are denying warranty on “adapters”. A case of someone at Lippert not knowing all the facts.

In the end, I did not have the stomach to risk putting my finances at stake like that, so I bought a Reese Goose Box, which is the only gooseneck type hitch approved by Lippert. No "no man's land" in that scenario, and you have full gooseneck advantages.

I'm sure the Andersen works fine but you can solve the problem for about $50. Mount a long U-bolt to a truss in your garage and hang a chain hoist from it. When you want to remove/install the 5th wheel hitch use the hoist to raise/lower the hitch and just back the truck into place.

That's what I do with my 5th wheel hitch and have no problems at all. If you buy the Andersen and sell your current hitch you probably won't be out a terrible amount of money.

Add Arizona to that list. ANY ball, ball-style or pintle hitch is supposed to have chains. (Even clevis hitches, with just a drop pin (a "farm hitch") are supposed to use them, but I've never seen a farm trailer that even had chains, let alone used them. :B)

I have the aluminum version that's lowered (for a flatbed truck). I've said before that I have it out of necessity rather than purposefully choosing it. The gooseneck ball and overall arrangement of my flatbed would not have allowed any other type of fifth wheel hitch to be installed without significant modifications. So I ended up with the AUH.

That being said, the product works and its ease of installation/removal is simply unparalleled. I've had no troubles with mine and am considering buying one for my new truck as well. It is a little annoying to have to lift the trailer so high for hitching and un-hitching, but that's really not too much of an issue.

I chose to skip the safety chains, because I don't feel that there's really any significant safety concern. In my opinion, the connection point really isn't any less secure than a typical fifth wheel hithch connection.

I use chains. Not because I'm worried about tickets, but because of liability concerns.

I use chains here in Texas but there doesn't seem to be much enforcement of that . Nearly all the gooseneck trailers you see going down the road have no safety chains,
I don't find them annoying to use.

This will be close to actual state safety chain requirements.

Most state require safety chains on a ball type hitch.

A handful have no requirements.....a couple only on trailers over 3k-6k.

Safety chains on a ball type hitch is just good common sense.

The link listed shows max towing speed for all the states. I was surprised at how many have a max towing speed of 55. Do states have signs that say towing speed. I have seen the signs going into IL but that is the only state I have noticed a max towing speed sign.
