Anderson

I have the Anderson hitch and have found that it requires raising the nose of the 5vr much higher than the regular type hitches. I think this contributed to me needing to replace the motor on the landing gear. So I think I need to get to the regular type...what do you think?

Doubtful, but it does require an extra 2-3 inches, that IMO is not much higher, but if that is all it takes to ruin your motor it was probably on its way out.

The motor on my landing gear is nearly 11 years old, and still going strong using the Andersen. IMO you got landing gear that was not running as smooth as it should, and just wore out that motor.
  • Yes it is irritating having to raise it so high for the Anderson. That being said, it's not a ton higher and would have gone out regardless. Just might have lasted a little longer. Trailers are built with the absolute cheapest stuff they can find that barely meets the requirements. Like I just found out my 14,000 pound GVW fifth wheel has 2 6,000 pounds axles. Granted over 2,000 pounds is pin weight, but still should have bigger axles.
  • No the Landing gear was most likely a single motor about the size of a winshield wiper motor from LCI. Cheap inferior product. Get a dual motor set up. Landing gear should go up and down, over and over. The 3" extra needed for the Andersen was not the problem.
