Bigfoot Levelers

Hello Folks,
My 2011 Cameo 37cksls came equipped with Quadra's Bigfoot leveling system. This was a feature my wife and I were (and still are) really excited about. So, here is the situation...

Not long ago I had a blowout, so there was lots of raising and lowering of individual jacks to swap tires, including the new replacement tire.

Once I got all this done, I retracted the jacks and pressed the "auto" button and coach didn't level, in fact, it lifted the rig off the ground. doh! So I called the Quadra tech support folks and was told that the system itself doesn't really understand "level". In other words, it has no 'bubble' sensor, or other device that tells it whether it is level or not. I was told that it only extends the jacks to the location where it was last programmed as level.

So, here's my question. If that was remotely true, all of this auto-leveling stuff would be hogwash, right? How could we use the levelers over the last few years and never notice an 'out of level' situation? If the tech was right, then every single site we pulled into had to be exactly level, or at least at the exact same slope as the last time the system was programmed.

Does any of this stuff make any sense to you?

Clearly I'm calling tech support tomorrow, but I thought I would check with you guys too.

Thanks so much!
Tom
  • We also have the Big Foot system and have found that both the product and the support from Quadra to be excellent. When the system was first set up you or your dealer had to calibrate it. As others have mentioned you probably need to re-calibrate it to work.

I bet you were glad you had it when you had to change the tires.

Good luck, in the past I've called "Jim" and he has been a great help. I have not upgraded our system and its working fine.

so the suggestion that "Follow the instructions for resetting "LEVEL"
And it will remember." kinda suggests that the system doesn't understand "LEVEL" by itself.

So.....how come? If it is a leveling system, does it really not know what "LEVEL" is? If that is the case, I would really have to manually level the thing any time I'm in an un-level spot, right?

Sorry I'm so confused, I must have some brain block about this thing.....

    Thanks for your patience.

Once it has been calibrated properly (told what level is) it will be able to go back to that "level" position (NOT leg lengths, but unit level)

So when you push auto level the legs (that aren't down yet) will extend to the ground and then all legs will adjust until the TRAILER is "level" regardless of the terrain (within range capabilities of course)
  • Yeah they are right. I have big foot levelers too. You have to calibrate the system to show it what level is. Then on different surfaces it will remember that. Just as an example when i first calibrated mine i had the back slightly lower then the front by accident. Then no matter where I was it would always level it the same way with the back slightly lower until i eventually decided to calibrate it again..
  • I've called them a couple of times. They were excellent to deal with and walked me through how to level the trailer. They also sent the directions to me, and I made a copy. My trailer is also the same age as yours. It is an excellent system.
  • I agree with you Tom - it is hard to understand! I don't either but the Quadra people are right - the system doesn't understand "level" but it does know how to get the rig level. As Banjo said, they upgraded the system and they may even send you the upgrade for free if you ask. The upgrade eliminates the rear sensor which was causing problems.

You don't have to disconnect the battery as suggested by bfast54 - there is a way to re-program level and the instructions are on the Quadra website.
  • so the suggestion that "Follow the instructions for resetting "LEVEL"

  • Call them back and ask for Rick. Ext 218 I believe...

They have upgraded the Bigfoot since you bought your trailer.
Easy change to upgrade. Don't remember the $$$
Now easier to use...Manual Mode. Etc.

Follow the cable from the panel back to the brains of the leveler.
It will have an arrow on it pointing to the front of the trailer.
    Sensor is in this unit.

Follow the instructions for resetting "LEVEL"
    And it will remember.
  • I think somehow you got a guy that just happened to be walking by the phone when it rang???
doesn't sound like he knows what he's talking about at all

Call them back, and if you get the same guy...ask for someone else.

I go by the place all the time..on my way to Middlebury....will stop and chat with the guys sometime.

You might try getting it quote level then unhook the power batteries and stuff like that say for 5 minutes 10 minutes 20 minutes and then Re-hook the power and see if that does it....?
  • I'm going to agree w/ you. Does not make any sense cuz you are never going to be on the same surface with same variations in ground level.

I think the system has been programed to know what level is (not sure how) then it goes back to that level by using the jacks to achieve that same level. (if that makes sense)
