You can take it apart and clean it, but, most likely you have a bad impeller. You will need to replace it to make it pump. After every use, you need to flush it with clean water to clear it. I will pour in a little oil in it and run it to lubricate the impeller. If you don't lube it, the blades of the impeller will stick and when you try to run it, it can and will pull the blades off the impeller.
These pumps need routine maintenance. The impeller starts losing vanes and hair builds up around the shaft. You need to take it apart and clean it on some some kind of schedule based on use. I do mine every other year. You can order a kit online or go to a West Marine if you are near water.
The part number for the vane is stamped on the metal part of the impeller. There are minor variations and you have to get the correct one. I can all but promise you you need a new impeller.
Let's not confuse OP
His FloJet is a fresh water pump and just like a Shurflo it is a diaphragm pump assembly..........not a macerator pump with an impeller
Thanks for the replies. I will take it apart today and try cleaning it.
First check for air leaks on suction side of pump. Diaphragm pumps will not prime when sucking air in
