Demco Glide Ride Pinbox showed up

And it is in a pretty beatup condition with several chips in the powder coating:( Not impressed thus far... Some of the Youtube videos show the hitch articulating easily by hand but I can only get mine to slightly budge when whacking it with a rubber mallet. By hand is a no-go. Are the videos for demonstration purposes or should this thing move freely with no load on it?
  • If the mechanism moved "freely by hand," how do you think it would do with 3,000 lbs. on it? I couldn't budge mine by hand - and it works as intended when in use. As for the dings in the powder coating, sounds like rough handling by the shpper.

  • I uspected the pin weight applied to the cams is what creates a bulk of the resistance. Heavier the pin the more the resistance.

But since you confirmed you could not move yours easily by hand I will assume the video was NOT that of an actual working unit.

I didnt see much damage to the box so cant say exactly when the damage ocurred. I dont want to hassle with returning the unit oo will just live with the cosmedics. I just wanted to make sure the internals are working normally and not damaged.
  • My 2007 HH came with Demco pin box

When unhooking the kin pin plate is always in the 'forward' position
Using both hands I can push it backwards so that the plate is not sticking out

If I grab king pin I can pull it forward with a lot of effort

Watching it via rear view mirror while towing it gives the impression that it is gliding back & forth like it is 'waxed'
But then again 3000# pin weight is being pushed/pulled by 14K 5vr

10 yrs and still working the same way..GREAT!

Did you find a good welder?????

    Answer to your question: NO

Mine is over 11 years old doesn't move freely by hand but when hooked up it sure gets the job done..

  • I ran the Demco Glide Ride on our previous 2004 Mobile Suites 36RE3 for almost 10 years. It NEVER "moved freely by hand", but it did a terrific job of damping the fore/aft surging. We were very happy with its performance.

  • I have called Demco a couple times with some questions about my new Hijacker slider hitch. The customer service has been great. I think I would just touch it up with some rustoleum. It would be a pain to send it back.
