Sign up for their maintenance for the 7.99 or what ever it is and then call and have been come and make the system work. No charge for anything new to make it work. They actually did my first SWM dish install in Arizona right in the RV park.

I don't have ethernet in every room at home, but they added a DECA device that enables WHDVR so the remotes (C31's) can access the genie using that connection for whole home dvr service too (via their coax).
I would expect that to work in the FW without having to run ethernet.

Well sort-a. What you have is the DIRECTV Cinema Connection Kit w/ Power Supply (DECA2PR) that connects the HR34 or HR44 Genie to your ethernet network. I believe the C31 client has the Deca built in just like the HR34 and HR44. The only Deca you would have is for an old box without the built in Deca.

Thanks for the info. I think the info on just paying the extra 5 bucks is the thing to do. Will save time and headaches.

That's true. After re-reading the OP's original post, I realize there could be two questions there:

(1) Will that specific receiver work?
-or-
(2) Can I use it as a Genie receiver?

I assumed, and answered, the latter question. Jeff is correct, it would have to be a SWM antenna if the OP's question is the first one.

im not sure that's true with the Genie. It's a SWM input only, and unless the OP has a very recent Travler, he'll need a Multiswitch conversion as well

When I switched to the Genie, I contacted Directv and they sent my the smallest receiver they have. Now that stay in the FW all the time. For $5 a month it's worth not switching back and forth from the house.

It will work as a stand alone receiver, but you won't have the "Whole Home" functions like watching recorded movies or having control of it from your other home receivers (unless you replace it back at home).
