I know this topic has been tossed around a number of times but today I saw the benefit of then with my own eyes. We have dual pane windows in our 5th wheel. A friend with a popular brand 5th wheel was parked next to us. The temperature went down to 28* last night. Our windows were nice and dry on the inside. Theirs were wet and had water running down their walls. So this is one benefit to duel panes and I'm glad we have them even though we had problems with them. We had 6 windows that fogged up between the pane. The manufacture did replace them.

They had water running down their walls??? The only fair comparison would be if they had a Carrilite with single panes.

Interesting post. Our 5'er has SPW's. We wrestled with the SPW/DPW decision when we ordered our 5'er in 2003 and decided on SPW's. We've been in sustained sub-freezing temps as low as 12 degrees F for a few days at a time during our travels and never have we had water running down our walls. Or the windows for that matter. There has been on a rare occassion (12 degrees F in Iowa & NY for a week each) when we'll see a little frost buildup on the inside kitchen window but it's not enough to generate much in the way of water run. dual pane windows are ok if you feel you need them. We are always in moderate climates not to hot, not to cold. We have never had water running down walls, fogging on inside except when wife was cooking inside with not enough ventilation. If we felt Dual panes were necessary we would have them. They do have a small noise factor.

This is our 4th., 5th.,wheel, first with DP windows. First thing I noticed was how much quieter it is inside the trailer. When the temps dropped to 25 F a couple weeks ago the trailer seemed so much warmer and NO condensation on the windows. I AM SOLD on dual pane windows.

I'm sure the op meant water running from the windows down the walls. Even in SoCal it makes a huge difference! No more sweating windows in cool weather. If you have single pane and don't have condensation when it is cold outside, you must not warm up the rig because in 36 years of RVing all my rigs had single pane except my current one, and they ALL created condensation inside, but not my dual panes I now have. It is pure physics, happens with your 'cold' one you drink, happens with your RV! :-)

We have single pane windows, and last time we camped it dropped to upper 20's.
We had lots of water on the upper windows in our C.
They don't make houses with single pane anymore, and I'm sure double pane will
be the future with RVs. Doubles will help with the AC and noise as some have stated. I'm all for doubles on our next unit.

We aren't really in temperature extremes, but we found our DPW sure make it quiet inside over our last SPW.

We found 1 added bonus with ours. Last spring outside of New Orleans I saw a black puff at the back of my camper in the mirror. We found that a window blew out. ( we suspect that it was hit by a rock thrown by a lawn mower at the previous nights stop) The outer pane was gone But the inner pane was fine. We were able to continue our trip as the rig was still watertight. Thank goodness as we did hit heavy rain.

I've owned two rv's with dp windows and two without (still own one of each). DP windows make a huge difference for me with the amount of condensation even in moderately cold temps. I believe that it is largely dependent on how toasty you like to keep your RV.
