Ford 5th-Wheel/Gooseneck Trailer Tow Prep Package

Curious what the 5th-Wheel/Gooseneck Trailer Tow Prep Package is about. Does this package include rails in the bed or are rails under the bed? Can I use my old Reese 5th hitch or do I need to buy something new? I still remember the difficulty, a dozen years ago, of drilling the frame and attaching angle brackets so any factory prep must be a big plus.

  • My 2012 F350 factory prep looks just like the ones above, 4 holes for the 5th wheel hitch "puck" mounting system, one center hole for the gooseneck ball.

You will either need a hitch designed for the factory prep system, or an adapter for your old hitch.
  • Hensley's Trailer Saver 5th Wheel hitch has an adaptor plate you put down first.

In the bed with the hitch -

Without the hitch, in the bed. Ready for removal.
  • We have the Ford factory prep package with the factory supplied Reese drop in 25,000 lb rated hitch. It's a nice set up.
  • Rusty is showing the prep for the RAM 13 and newer trucks. The Ford has a much narrower attachment front to back than the RAM. I assume this is why B&W rates the Ford hitch much less than the RAM drop in hitch.

Be sure to look at the B&W hitches available for the puck system. None better IMHO.
  • With the right hitch you just remove the covers on the holes and drop the hitch right in. The rails are already installed. You won't be able to use a hitch not designed for this. Pullrite, B&W, and Reese make hitches for this prep package. I know there are some other hitches designed to install in the prep package.

I think there are some adapters available that let you use some other hitches. I don't know anything about those other than the fact that they exist.

It takes us less than 10 minutes to install or remove our Pullrite.
