Ford F350

My GMC dealer has dropped the ball. I may not be getting my New 3500HD.
The dealer was suppose to order the truck The first week in January so it would be her by the end of Feb. It appears the dealer forgot to order it until the middle to end of Feb. So far no idea when the truck will be delivered. Our new fifth-wheel is setting at the dealer ready to go. We have reservations made, a family reunion to go, all based on early March delivery. There are no Chevy/GMC 3500hd with in 500 miles that will do the job.
I have found a F350 equipted like I would need for towing our new fifth-wheel. I know nothing about ford. Does the Tranny have tow haul mode? is there an exhaust break? The truck is 4x4 with the fith-wheel goose neck towing package ( puck system). Will this truck have a locking rear end or is that an option that needs to be added at the factory? This F350 has about 85% of the stuff of the truck I ordered out from GMC dealer.
Wife and I are not happy.:M

  • You can’t go wrong with any of them. If you can’t find the GM you want, get the Ford or Ram that has what you want. Reliability, capability, features differences between the three is nil.
GM dealer mad me mad 30 years ago and I bought a Ford. That’s all I have owned since and never regretted it a day.
  • I would personally be leery of the Powerstroke because it still uses the CP4 fuel pump. There's a reason GM dropped it and Cummins never used it in the first place. The new Super Duty looks like a fantastic truck otherwise, but in the HD diesel realm right now I'd be looking at Ram or GM.

I would second the idea of expanding your search radius. Getting the truck you want would be worth a plane ticket and a few tanks of fuel if you had to travel for it.
  • Yes on the T/H, and a great tranny, yes on the E/B, most will have E-locking rear end, maybe all new models, but not really needed with 4x4 IMO. Don't forget Fords great tow mirrors, and top rated IBC. If the seat doesn't fit, the above Cummins Aisin is a good choice too, with proven reliability.

    1) Find another dealer, if possible.
    2) Why limit your search to only 500 miles? If there's a truck =any= distance from you, have the dealer bring it in...at THEIR expense...on a trailer! This is why there's a nationwide dealer network... We had the wife's Genesis Coupe trailered from Reno to PHX.

  • I highly advise looking for a RAM 3500 with AISIN Medium Duty Transmission and factory rear air ride!

GM Dumped the problematic CP4 pump and went with Denso recently since they had so many warranty claims. Ford still uses this pump. Cummins uses the CP3 injection pump that is VERY trouble free.
