How to stop a Superglide from gliding for 1 trip

I will be camping at a spot this coming season that will not allow me ( space wise) to un-hook and re-hook close to straight..

I measured and have plenty of space, as my cap is curved in the front..

As long as I have the clearance, i was thinking of removing the capture plate just for this trip.. I was gonna lock the head from swiveling back during a turn.

I have camped here before, and there are no sharp turns on either way getting there or returning home.. It is just the site itself...

18K Superglide..

  • I did it that way once and it was a real PITA to re-hook... If your not at the exact same position/angle when rehooking it will not go back... there is no room for margin on the pivots..

I remember a few years ago there were some on here that made a lock out piece for the Superglide themselves with great success ...

I was hoping they were still around and could comment on what they found was best..
  • Just leave the hitch head attached and pull the pins that secure it to the base in the truck bed. I did this a few times when I was in a similar situation worked fine.

Why not continue to use your SuperGlide per normal but just’lift’ it out, and in, when you’re not straight? Check the manual and it shows how this can be done easily, just a pin on either side to remove and replace.

  • Per the Superglide Owners Manual FAQ Section

    1. Can I pull other Fifth wheel trailers with my SuperGlide hitch?
Your SuperGlide hitch can only pull trailers equipped with the SuperGlide Capture Plate.
If you hook up to a trailer that does not have a Capture Plate installed, there is no control to keep the hitch in the forward
towing position and the weight of the trailer will cause the head to turn and slam or “free fall” to the rear
of the hitch’s angled cam slot, which may cause damage to the hitch, truck, and the king pin.
We do not recommend locking the hitch in any way to keep it in the forward position
  • I have 2 pins for my pullrite to lock it in place. 1 bolt to remove the capture plate, BUT have not tried it that way yet
