Is there a hitch adapter for a ball in the truck?

Not sure if I phrased my question properly but I hope it makes sense enough to get help.

I recently purchased a new to me dually truck and there is ball already installed in the bed of the truck. From my understanding of it, the ball is now turned upside down but can be pulled out of the hole and flipped over to be used for some types of hitches.

We are not currently using our 5th wheel trailer in a mobile way now, just sits on the site all the time. So rather than try and find a hitch to mount in my truck bed for whenever we do need to relocate...is there some type of adapter I can buy for the trailer hitch to make it function with the ball in the truck?

Thanks for the help,
Phil

  • Thanks guys! That's the info I was looking for. And after looking at it I do believe it is the B & W turn over ball hitch. When weather warms some so I can crawl under the truck I will confirm.

    Again, thanks!
  • I use the Andersen and prefer it over everything else.If the turnover all is B&W or Bulldog you can use Companion. If Curt, only Andersen or Curts X-Rail that adds rais usin the ball hole & they also have it to fit a B&W .

There are "Goose Neck" adapters available to convert your FW.

Don't do this. Gooseneck adapters for fifth wheels 1) void most RV chassis/frame warranties, and 2) are known for causing damage to the RV chassis/frame due to the excessive torsion forces placed on the fifth wheel pin box and the front of the RV frame. Much better options are the B&W Companion fifth wheel hitch that uses the turnover ball for mounting or the Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel Connection (NOT a gooseneck) aluminum version than anchors to the truck via the turnover ball.

  • Congratulations on your "new" truck. It sounds like you may have the B&W turn over ball hitch. If that is the case, the ball can be taken out and replaced with their 5th Wheel Companion. That is a full feature 5th wheel hitch. It's what I've used for over 15 years and I feel is an excellent hitch since when you aren't using it you can remove it from the bed of the truck for full use of the truck bed with no rails interfering.
