Out of curiosity, I went and looked at a few bottle jacks on Amazon. Was surprised to see that most of them did not have the vee groove that I am used to, and just had a stamped serration. Even so, I would be completely comfortable using that to lift my axle. The serrations form a similar vee, just not as deep, so there is still some resistance to side slip.
