With a 5th wheel, your limitation usually isn't what you can PULL, it's what you can CARRY as pin weight - as you're seeing. If you're buying a truck to pull a 5th wheel, why not go for the 3500 DRW? If you absolutely refuse to consider a dually, then at least get the 3500 SRW. The 2500 is handicapped from the get-go in payload and rear GAWR, so why not get the right tool to begin with?
