This is a good answer. The real differences that limit RAWR lower for the 2500 used to be just the tires and maybe the wheels. In my Ram 2500 the RAWR is just slightly less than the weight ratings for both rear tires combined. The 2500 CTD used the same AAM axles as the 3500 SRW and DRW. The axle is rated for about 11,000 lbs by the axle manufacturer.
If you insist on going this way to please the DW (if she ain't happy no one is) you must make sure the tires and wheels are beefed up. Not just the air bags. Good luck.
