This is a good answer. The real differences that limit RAWR lower for the 2500 used to be just the tires and maybe the wheels. In my Ram 2500 the RAWR is just slightly less than the weight ratings for both rear tires combined. The 2500 CTD used the same AAM axles as the 3500 SRW and DRW. The axle is rated for about 11,000 lbs by the axle manufacturer.
If you insist on going this way to please the DW (if she ain't happy no one is) you must make sure the tires and wheels are beefed up. Not just the air bags. Good luck.
Not the same with the dually an Aisin with the 300mm rear end. It has a RAWR of 11,800# per AAM...Funny thing is, the Ram 2500 with E rated tires has a lower RAWR than the 3500 SRW with the same "E" rated tires, comparing same size to same size...wonder why that is?

I'd say the coil spring capacity is slightly less. IB516 did a test with his friends 5th wheel, and when hitched to both trucks his 2500 had a little more drop than his friends 3500. Not much but slightly different. If I remember correctly his 2500 has a 6500lb RAWR and his friends 3500 has 7000 RAWR.
