2015 GMC & CHEV 2500HD are good up to 17,200 with the ext cab 8' bed
Most likely a 17200lb fiver will put at least 3500lbs on the pin. Add to that a 200lb hitch and 400 lbs for passengers and your at 4100lbs of payload. Too much for a 3/4 ton.
3500 SRW is not a 3/4 ton.

Huh????
You totally lost me there.
2500HD is NOT a 3500SRW - jerem0621Explorer II

OP.... I had a RV.net Dually crew cab long bed. I HATED it. It literally didn't fit in my parking garage at work... Can't go through car washes, can't see my little utility trailer behind me except on really tight curves. Can only reach over the side of the bed in front of or behind the Dually fenders. (hey, I'm short!) 50% increase in tire cost, 10-30% reduction in fuel economy.
Me personally, I will go out of my way to buy a trailer that works with a short bed SRW.
However, for your needs, you may have to go to a Dually, just depends on how much your trailers pin weight is.
Thanks!
Jeremiah - brireneExplorerMy guess with that Montana is that you're at least approaching dually territory, so why not go with the extra truck for an easier and more stable tow? If you can post your weights you'll get more specific responses. Congrats on the new unit!

Since (from another post of yours) it appears you have already purchased a fifth wheel, then what you really need is facts.
Such as weights of the fifth wheel. Pin weight, fully loaded weight. Unloaded figures given by the manufacturer will help here. Divide the pin weight by the unloaded weight and it should show a percentage. Such as 15% or 20%. Then multiply that percentage by the max fully loaded weight rating of the fifth wheel and it will give you an idea of what the pin weight will increase to when the fifth wheel is fully loaded.
Then go find a truck that can handle those figures. Most important fact to remember is how much payload the truck can carry (pin weight).
Most all new trucks can pull the fifth wheel you bought.
BUT can they CARRY the pin weight?
Get the facts and you will know. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIISingle Rear Wheel........up to 14,000# 5th wheel GVWR

Don't know which 3450TS you have???? - RedJeepExplorerA dually is not as much of a PITA as a daily driver as I had anticipated. Having the dually give me many more options for campers or trailers.
- C_SchomerExplorerYou need to figure out if you need the payload of a dually. Craig
