New Eclipse LED Flood Lights

If anyone has purchased a Eclipse (Attitude/Stellar) in the last 6mo or so with the new LED exterior flood lights shoot me a PM as I found some issues with how the LED drivers (behind the control panel) were installed on these units. I have contacted Eclipse to let them know of the situation and they have been good to work with and are making recommended changes.
  • How did you open and gain full access to that cabinet by the way???
  • Yeah I had thought about putting some standoffs on there and probably will. I'm going to go back in after using them a little more and see if they are still getting as hot (as evident on the backing plate) and if so put in some spacers.

For the interior LED lights I don't believe they use these same drivers or any type of driver for that matter. I believe the interior LEDs are powered directly off of the dimmer voltage. The dimmers vary the DC between ~9v to full DC output(12-13.xV). These drivers are only for the four large outside LED flood lights that require ~55V at full power.

The outside LED floods do kick ass but the dimming solution could be better from my experience. I find that I set the dimmer to the light output I like but after a while it will get a lot brighter. Telling me the output voltage on the drivers are likely increasing as they heat up over time. I also get a lot of feedback in my stereo when the big floods are on making the stereo practically unusable.
  • Wow that is very concerning to see.

Might want to ditch the plywood and get some type of aluminum heat dissipating plate or something, raising it up is good but you want to dissipate that heat. Maybe even a small computer fan. That seems like a huge fire hazard.

thats what I was thinking too..

I was tinkering with some of the wiring and noted that yes mine are mounted the same way as pictured.

I wonder how hot the drivers are getting for the interior dim-able leds?

  • The issue has to do with the way the LED drivers are being installed. Eclipse wasn't able to tell me if all of them are installed this way or not. On my model the drivers were located behind the control panel. You'll want to open it up and see if they are installed right next to each other like this.

These things get very hot after the lights have been on ~20min or so as you can see by the burn marks on the wood mounting plate. By mounting them right next to each other it is not allowing air to flow around the driver to properly cool. One of mine failed while camping a few weeks ago and the LED stopped working. The driver had noticeable cracking on the backside due to overheating.

You'll want to remove the drivers and mount them like this so they get proper airflow.
