I may be incorrect but, 2 8K axles and 17.5” tires/wheels should easily handle the 5th wheel weight. We had a 36 foot Teton that weighed a little more than that on 2 axles. Many high end 5ers come with two high weight rated axles! memtb

You are correct, but I was not talking about RV capacity.

Do you really think the Manufacture will post weights on the inside of the door if the truck could not handle it?
Stay under parameters of your truck and it will handle it.

You need to understand that a minimum of 20% pin and most likely higher with a double axle 5er. Simply take 20% of that high tow rating and you will see the RAWR being exceeded.

I am maxed out with my 23k DRV because it has 25% pin and it's double axle. I could tow a much heavier DRV that's a triple axle since the pin would be around 15-18%.

It's ALL about what the rear axle weight rating is.

Simple math 21,200# x .20% is 4,240#. Now take the same weight x 15% that is 3,180#. Now add a few things and you are MAXED out!

Your experience more or less mirrors mine. That Cedar Creek is one of the trailers that we had in the running. Sort of Western interior decor in 2016/2017 is the only reason we did not buy one.

If you look at my weights on page one of the thread my weights are all listed. I have no chucking and towed it in high winds several times. Handling in many situations during two round trips to Arizona from the NW was just fine. And yes we travel with a full fresh water tank, which is well behind the axles.

These new SRW trucks are not your grandfather's truck.

I'm looking for a 326 V8 rope drive fly wheel for my 63 Lemans. I have the 4 cylinder fly wheel but it is not the same. Converting the car four the four cylinder to the v8.
I deserve all of your kind suggestion!!

Light pin can lead to "Chucking".

If your still considering, I have a Cedar Creek 34 IK. The pin weight dry is about 2200lbs. I’m running about 24000 lbs loaded w a 46 gallon aux diesel tank. I have a 2018 Ram 3500 Bighorn CC SB HO w 3820 payload. Front axle 6000 lbs, rear axle 7000 lbs. Tires are rated at 7280 lbs together.

I don’t need airbags. The truck loaded is still about .5 - 1 inch high in the rear. Running B&W slider w flex air pin box.

This truck is fully in charge of the Creek. I tell everyone that the most surprising thing is that I’m not fighting the wheel. Been over a lot of bad road. And I swear I could take my hands off the wheel. Of course I don’t but it only seems like the more I load it the better it drives. The other thing is that location of the freshwater tank is important. Ours is behind the trailer wheels and I know that when it’s full it does probably take some weight off the pin. I have t verified that yet but I will before winter.

I believe w the diesel tank I’m over the GVWR if the truck by a couple of hundred pounds.but I’m well below the rear axle weight ratings. There are tires that can give you more capabilities. Instead of 3640 lbs per tire you can get 4040 on 295/70R 18. Tires. Which is like another 800 lbs cushion. Look at the Bridgestone Riva At 3’s.

So if your trailer GVWR is below 16500 lbs, and you watch the pin weight you will be ok. If the pin is 3000 lbs dry, well that probably won’t work, But 2600 or below you’ll be ok.

Also if Ford Ram or Chevy say the payload is 3800, the truck will handle 3800lbx safely.

My Ram is a great tuck and I’m very pleased w handling and I’ve put a lot of miles of it this summer.
