New truck now?

I have an 08 Chevy diesel, problem free, runs awesome, no DEF and 120,000 miles on it, 85,000 miles are mine. I have been eyeballing a new or 2015 GMC Denali. My truck is almost paid off so after trade my payments would be the same outflow every month.

I am like you tho, I like new vehicles lol. A buddy of mine has an 08 dodge. He just paid someone $1,100 to add new leather to all the seats plus about $1,000 in other things like backup camera, radio, DVD player, navigation. He basically has a new truck for $2,100.

It's not the same but definitely an option. Especially since 06 was the best year of diesels.

If the 2006 truck is in good shape and does everything you need and it's paid for...
but the new truck would require a loan to buy it, well I would be very content with the older truck.

I used to love getting a new vehicle every year or 2 back when I didn't know that I couldn't afford it and didn't need it to be happy.
At 73 I would still like the novelty of a new car or truck every year or so if I had enough money to provide all other present and future needs and no loans. Not going to happen. That's OK because I've learned that a "new" one isn't new after a few months and used is great and saves thousands. Also, they will nearly all last for years and well over 100,000 and still be nice. Debt free and plan to stay that way.

I agree with another poster. I would keep what you have. Your truck, the 5.9, doesn't have all the emission junk like the new trucks. I have an '07.5 6.7 diesel and it's the first one with the emission junk. I have since deleted because I can where I live. Tell him to get a new radio, seat covers, etc.. and make it seem new.

Unless you have put a ridiculous number of miles on it or it doesn't have the capacity to pull whatever you have now, a ten year old diesel should not need replacing. Just wanting to replace it for the hell of it is another issue. Have you thought about getting a lease return instead of something new? Better yet, find the model of this years truck you like and arrange with a dealership to buy a lease return of that model when they come up for return. That will let you see if the model has any issues and also let you get a few more years out of your existing truck.

He'll get a much bigger truck then want the monster TH back.

Wants and needs, two different issues. Smaller 5th wheel should not equate to new truck, especially if the current truck is paid off.

What does he have in mind? If staying diesel the new ones are nice but you'll be inheriting modern diesel emissions and all the headaches that CAN come with them.
