New York City Rv Parking

What is the best choice for an RV park in order to visit New York City?
  • Liberty Harbor is a large parking lot in Jersey City overlooking NYC. Just across the river from Wall St (there is a ferry that travels to Wall St from the marina at LH, but it is expensive).

You can easily walk the 3 blocks to the PATH train that will take you to either Times Square (33rd St.) or the World Trade Center (WTC) for $2.50 each way. It is about an 8 minute ride, so it is quick and cheap. Other campgrounds outside of the city will cost you much more and take much more of your time to get in and back out.

LH is definitely NOT a destination campground, but if you are just wanting to use the RV as a hotel, this is the place for you. It is a safe neighborhood and at night, the lights are beautiful.

I HATE NYC, but the family loves it. LH is our go-to place.
  • New Jersey is correct: Liberty Harbor in Jersey City is across the Hudson from NYC and a subway (PATH) ride away. PATH runs all night, so you can do evening theater or whatever in NYC. People will point out that LH is a parking lot, but what else would you want if the point is to visit NYC. LH is in a safe part of Jersey City, has 24-hour security, and there is shopping within walking distance. It's been a few years since we were there, but I don't think things have changed much. The PATH train runs up to 33rd street with several stops in lower Manhattan.
  • KOA in Newburgh NY. You can either take the train from Beacon NY (about an hour train ride into city) or they have a tour bus that leaves from the RV park. Pricey but well worth it.
  • Wondering what the traffic is like getting to Liberty Harbor? Would be coming from PA Scranton area. Just wondering if its that hectic crazy NYC type driving? Thinking of going there, but waiting to hear how driving conditions are . Wife has some appointments at Sloan Kettering, last time we drove to Middletown ny and took metro north and stayed in hotel, but considering other options.thanks
  • check out Croton Point Park in Westchester cty. A short drive to the railroad into the city. 50 bucks a night full hook up 50 amp. Best bet for the city.
  • We stayed in Liberty Harbor while visiting NYC. The security is great, friendly staff and you can't beat the convenience to NYC. We took the PATH and also did the ferry - just to see how the New Yorkers commute. The walk to the PATH is short and we were not concerned for our safety. Enjoy NYC!!

We were there last year, arrival was June 30 and left on July 5. We came in from RI and traffic was horrible across the GW bridge. Once we got past there, traffic was tolerable and we arrived at the exit about 3:45 pm. Once we got off of I-95, there was very little traffic to contend with, only stopping for traffic lights.

Leaving LH, (approx 10 am),we were traveling south and traffic was moving along and we had no issues.
