  • 1840 . Without 4 wheel drive 2000.I have 4 wheel drive. Pulling from goose neck ball. 1840 includes my factory install puck system. Nissan gives me 1700 pound king pin weight.
  • There should be a yellow sticker inside the door on the Nissan that says something like "Combined weight of cargo and passengers should not exceed ______ lbs". What does that yellow sticker say. With that information, we would be better able to answer your questions.

The short answer is: you can pull a much bigger TT than 5th wheel with any given truck due to pin weight (22%±) vs tongue weight (12%±) being a lot more for a 5er vs TT.

    Travel Trailer

With a max carrying capacity of 1700#.... take your hitch at 250#, family at 300# ... that’s 550 off the 1700 without even hooking up...

Don’t get me wrong, I am sure there are PLENTY of small fifth wheels that have a light pin, but thats really light...... stay with a travel trailer

I believe he has 2000 lbs for payload and is deducting 300 lbs for other stuff. So he's working with 1700 lbs as the max for pin. 1300 lbs for pin plus 400 for gear seems doable.

    Makes sense.... thanks for that

  • With a travel trailer, your hitch equipment (weight distributing hitch and possibly sway bars) would weigh 150 lbs less than a fifth wheel hitch. Also, the average tongue weight on a travel trailer is 12 - 13 percent of the loaded trailer weight, where pin weight on many fifth wheels is closer to 22 percent.

With those percentages, comparing a 7000 lb TT with a 7000 lb FW, your truck would need about 1000 lbs of available payload for the TT and 1790 lbs for the FW.

  • Isn’t the king pin weight on a 9500 pound 5er going to exceed your payload? What will you carry in the TV? Didn’t you say earlier your payload was...”1700 includes hitch but not me. Payload is 2000.”
