Power to Slides & Front Compartment with Battery

Yesterday my slides were working in the morning and afternoon and then when it was time to close up the slides did not work. Here is what I did and noticed so I am stuck.

BATTERY Volt reading about 12.68
1) All appliances, lights inside work
2) PLUGGED INTO TRUCK LCI Hydraulic lifts work, I did not try when unhooked
3) I checked all fuses related to slides and battery
4) I checked all wire connections and 2 were somewhat loose so I tightened those
5) Waited a little while while truck was running & tried again with no luck

I noticed that in the front compartment where the battery is the LCI Slide Controller does not have any lights blinking to indicate what the issue is and there is one utility light that will not turn on as well and the bulb is ok.

Any suggestions?

  • RESOLVED: My new procedure is going to be
    1) check fuses
    2) check fuses again
    3) check fuses one more time

So as you can see it turned out to be a fuse after 3 days of trial and error.

-1st)I visually checked the fuses and did not see any problems
-2nd) I used a cheap Fuse Tool Fuse Puller Detector Test and the light lit up green on them all.
-3rd) I noticed the Living Room fuse has a red light lit up next to it which said was a bad connection, pushed that in all the way and light went out and thought I was good, but the slides still did not work, nor did the awnings, or exterior lights (all of these switches "slides, exterior lights")
-4th) I was ready to give up but saw a mechanic on YouTube using a Multimeter to test the fuses and thought I would give it a shot - and guess what, the Living Room fuse was bad
-5th) Put a new fuse in and pushed slide 1 in and heard that lovely sound of my slides coming in!!!!
-6th) I saved the master bedroom slide for last and it did not work, I was too excited about getting all the other in I did not care but went back to step 1
-7th) Checked the fuses again and all were good
-8th) Last, back to the Slide Control Panel I had to do a manual override which was to push the mode button 6 times and hold on the 7th until green/red lights flash and then I was able to get the slide in
  • When you push the slide switch do you hear a relay/solenoid click? Monitor the voltage and push the switch and see if voltage drops out.

May just me a battery not charged issue.

When the truck is plugged in voltage should get up into to the mid 13 range. What is the tow vehicle? OEM most GM's have to have the charge lead that is tied back under the hood connected for them to charge a trailer battery.

  • Thanks for pointing that out, usually i am there with the generator on and never really tested outlets until troubleshooting the slides...

this is all new to me, 1st RV...seems to be something every other week. I guess repairs/maintenance are going to be a constant thing?
  • Only one question... are you plugged into shore power? If not, none of your outlets will work, 110VAC, not 12VDC

Could be a blown "short stop" circuit breaker. Some will auto reset when the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some have a manual reset button, and some do not have a reset function and need replacement. They are sold at most auto parts stores.

Look for something like this, inline on the hot wire between the battery and slide. They come in various amperage ratings. If you have no voltage between the two posts, the breaker is either bad, or needs resetting. If you are replacing one, replace with same amperage rating, as that of the old unit.

Voltage between to post would indicate the breaker was open!

You want to read voltage for ground to each post of the breakers, not between the two post. If one side is hot and the other is not, then the breaker is open. For a reading between the post you would want your meter in olms and look for 0 olms or very close to that.

  • What brand RV? Our Montana 5er has 12 VDC driven hydraulic slides with auto reset breakers. Those breakers weaken after a while and cease to reset.

When we had a Titanium with electric motor gear driven slides. I had the power line to the electric motors come off. It had been sitting for a couple months.
  • I went back this evening and found none of the outlets are working. All lights, vent fans work, i checked all fuses again, battery was charged and at 12.78. I checked all my outlets and only have one gfci in main bathroom which i pushed in and it clicked so i am guessing i reset it but still no luck with power.

Usually i would be able to open the slides with power from my truck and rv battery.

I will look at the blown "short stop" circuit breaker tomorrow. Would this cut power to all the outlets and slides ok the RV?

  • Most slides have a way of manually retracting them. Have you check manual on slides.
