Pressure tank

Thanks for all of the replies. It appears that these accumulator tanks are still available mostly as aftermarket and do work to reduce pump cycling.
In my case, the check valve on my pump has a slow leak even after a rebuild kit installation. This causes the pump to run for a second or two to rebuild pressure every 5 to 10 minutes. We just shut the pump off at night so we can sleep peacefully. A tank would not "fix the root problem" but maybe the pump would run for 30 seconds each hour?

Agree with the above.
Most system (pumps) are pretty quiet now.

"Back when" pressure tanks on RVs *were* common..;)

I had a 24 ft (1974) Terry Travel Trailer which had a 30gal pressure tank.
The pump would run from time-to time to maintain the pressure (so you still had pump noise).

The tank was cylindrical / steel.
Besides the potential for rust, when I converted to a demand system,
the rectangular plastic tank fit the same area with greater capacity.

Agree with "Veebyes" - never had an RV demand pump fail.

IMO - *If* the pump is too loud - insulate it with a cover (small box with sound deadening material), or?

Many larger high end coaches come with them-and most bus conversions...I have one on my carriage and added one to the old prowler...

I always installed one on my RV's before I got a variable speed pump. I wouldn't have been without one.
FWIW, using a 1 or even 2 gallon expansion tank for water heaters allows you to run the water a lot without the pump coming on. With a 2 gallon model I could flush the toilet at least 25 times before the pump would cycle. A nice thing to have if your pump is noisy and your concerned about waking people in your RV up at night.
The only down side to such a set up is winterizing. It can be hard to drain the tank and unless you put a valve on it, it wants to fill with AF.

are you kidding, include one on a new unit? They cost MONEY. Why do you think they include the cheapest tires and smallest axles they can get by with? MONEY They are available but I tried one and did not think they were worth the bother, just another thing to make sure was empty when winterizing. And some of the better ( aftermarket) pumps can't have them.

The purpose of an accumulator tank is to have a compressable pocket of AIR to reduce pump cycling, not to have water available.

Not typically needed on RV's IMHO.

Our unit came with one from the factory 2005 HH DA.

I've used the 1 gallon Stainless Steel Accumulater on last three RV's. Wouldn't be without it.
