Been towing a 13,830# (actual weight) 5vr for 7 yrs. with a 3500 2wd SRW.
Never felt need for dually.
ALL vehicles are capable tow platforms.........PROVIDED that they tow within their actual ratings. Real payload availability, RAWR/Rear tire max load ratings etc.
Know what those ratings/real numbers are and stay within them.....no issues.
Weigh the tow vehicle fully loaded ready to go camping and then you can figure out what you have available for towing.
Forget mfg. published magical tow ratings.....you will run out of payload/GWVWR long before you reach that tow rating number.
YES...an SRW can comfortably/safely tow up to 14K 5vr.
The newer 3500 SRW trucks can probably safely tow more than 14K, may be closer to a GVW of 15,000# if they can handle the pin weight of the 5er without exceeding RAWR. MIght be harder to keep it under GVWR..
I will say that I've towed the same 5er with both a SRW and a DRW truck through the mountains of WV, TN, VA and NC, and I truly feel that the towing experience was more stable with the dually when towing on mountainous, curvy roads...just my experience and my opinion...
Again, did OP ever tell us what 5er he is wanting to tow? Do we know it's GVW....not much need in speculating on what he'll need to tow with if we have absolutely no clue what he'll be towing......
