2016 ram 3500 dully??? gaser or diesel???

Devocamper, from his own thread about this, is set on the "paper" capacities and believes that the diesel live axle weight over the front axle takes away from payload.
they say there's a butt for every seat and his preference is a 2wd gasser dually to "allow" more overall payload into the equation.
Negating the fact that the truck he's choosing will have the same rear suspension as a 4x4 and/or diesel and will handle the load the same, save for the slight differences between 2 and 4wd ride height.
Also negating the fact that the 07 he has, has the same rear axle as the new gasser ram.

If you are already looking at Rams IMO the only way to go would be a diesel DRW truck with air ride assist. It would handle that 5K truck camper like a dream.

You bring up a good point - let me put a spin on it.

We're now at exactly 10 years since the first DPF trucks appeared. Gasoline emissions first appeared around what, 1973?

Would you consider a 1983 gasoline efficient? IIRC, that's right around when a Chevy 350 made 150ish hp. Well, that's how mature I believe the current DIESEL emissions are - 1980's gas level.

As you said, 40+ yrs into it, no one thinks about gas emissions any more. So in 2007 + 40 = 2047, I will happily buy a diesel without even thinking about emissions. But not today.

Emissions equipment have only been on diesels for 9 to 13 years, depending on the brand, car have been working on it for about 40 years.

Yes sir your right, I can recall some of those 70s cars and trucks, but not much since I was really young then. I stated driving in the 80s and have seen a change in the emission systems for gas engines for sure. I think that diesel will get there, may take some time but it appears that the def systems are doing ok. I like your older dodge, it's a great truck, my parents had one, think it was an 96 with the Cummins. Fantastic diesel for sure. Plus your blessed with no emissions so I can see a big value there. They had several Powerstrokes since then and a Dmax. Now they have a 2011 ram 3500 4x4 with the 6.7. So far I think they are north of the 150k mark, had a few issues with the Dpf but trucks got a lot of power. Cummins makes a good engine.

I wouldn't own a dpf diesel without def. I'm certain that the gas powered truck owners received the same farce letter.

We always seem to forget that the engine may last but the rest of the truck may not. Either gas or diesel really doesn't matter. It's up to want you want, each has there own advantages and disadvantages. Gas does what it needs to at a higher rpm, no big deal. Diesel does it lower but has to deal with all the newer emissions junk. You gotto pay to play as they say. Your money get what you want. I have had both and will say that I like them both, enjoy what you drive and drive what you need and what the pocket book tells you to.

Make sure you put a price on the diesel of "significantly more $" than the gasser just like everyone claims you are going to get.

Because you don't think diesels in general or good diesels in particular bring "significantly more $" than comparable gassers?
If you took a whippin on a 6.0no or 6.4 Powder smoke, then I can see your skewed opinion of this, but barring that, get real. I don't make the rules or decide market prices, but I can read and I've bought and sold many trucks, and in the last 10-12 years since diesels became popular and got significantly more power than their gasser cousins, they've commanded a significant premium in both the new and used market.
Perfect example, I had a 2001 Dodge 4x4 loaded gasser. Excellent condition, 125kmi. Got $7500 out of it private sale, top dollar in 2005.
If that truck was a 6speed 24V Cummins, I could still, right now today, same condition and miles, get over $15k for it. Plus it was only about half the $ to check the diesel option box back then and it would have fetched waaaay mornehan I sold it for back then too.
