ready for a better hitch...B&W or Anderson Ultimate

Story:

I'm not happy with My Curt Q16 hitch, lots of slop starting and stopping, chucking on un-even roads...althought this might not be the hitches fault.

When Starting and stopping I can see the pin box slide on the hitch head about a 1/2 inch or so. This is a new hitch and a new 5th wheel trailer ...my first.

I have bed rails, no problem with them...So I'm thinking about getting a better hitch to use with the rails and my 12,000 lb 5th wheel trailer.

I have narrowed my choices to the B&W Patriot and the Anderson Ultimate connection rail version with safety chains.

I see many good post on each, but what about choosing between the two?

    TrailAire air ride with TriGlide I drilled mine out also.

    Here are the pads I tried with my old hitch, the problem with that hitch was the contact area is so small on the base rails (1/2 x 1/2 inch) that it would tear though these pads quickly. I have an extra set and they look perfect for the Patriot with the wide flat contact area on top of the bed rails. I will report back.

    IMHO "Lock" the handle closed. That is one biggie that can't be done with the Andersen.

    Also lock the head to the base, real easy to lift and remove. Even base to rails!

    I know, locks are easy to cut! Don't need the I never lock anything comments, heard them all before.

    Got the 18K Patriot hitch and put it together today...very impressed so far.

    Had to stop and will continue tomorrow. Everything is done, except I will have to loosen my bed rails, insert B&W and re-torque.

I'm not happy with My Curt Q16 hitch, lots of slop starting and stopping, chucking on un-even roads...althought this might not be the hitches fault.

When Starting and stopping I can see the pin box slide on the hitch head about a 1/2 inch or so. This is a new hitch and a new 5th wheel trailer ...my first.

After talking about noise from our 5th wheel hitches, I did some snooping around my hitch. The head seems tight, the jaws tight on the kingpin, but the entire hitch can be moved a bit because the leg pegs are \"loose\" in the rails.

If there was a way to get the pins to not slop around, I wonder if some or all of my remaining chucking would disappear?

Here are the pads I tried with my old hitch, the problem with that hitch was the contact area is so small on the base rails (1/2 x 1/2 inch) that it would tear though these pads quickly. I have an extra set and they look perfect for the Patriot with the wide flat contact area on top of the bed rails. I will report back.

Here are the pads I tried with my old hitch, the problem with that hitch was the contact area is so small on the base rails (1/2 x 1/2 inch) that it would tear though these pads quickly. I have an extra set and they look perfect for the Patriot with the wide flat contact area on top of the bed rails. I will report back.

I wonder how much this ^ is a part of your (our) problem with chucking.

After talking about noise from our 5th wheel hitches, I did some snooping around my hitch. The head seems tight, the jaws tight on the kingpin, but the entire hitch can be moved a bit because the leg pegs are \"loose\" in the rails.

If there was a way to get the pins to not slop around, I wonder if some or all of my remaining chucking would disappear?
