You might also look at Bridgestone Duravis R250's. Cheaper than XPS Ribs and just as good. Heavier than the Ribs. Steel ply carcass like Rib and Sailun. If you have 6k or lighter axles,there is no reason to go to LRG tires. Chris

Kind of unfair comparing a G rated Sailun tire to an E rated Michelin RIB....Guess it depends on what axles you have, do you need an E rated tire or a G rated tire? if an E, you've been given a couple of really good choices, if looking for a G, then you already know about the Sailuns.

Go to Costco or DiscountTire and have them throw on a set of R250's

Can your rims handle 110 psi?

Good question above about the wheels being rated for 110 PSI.

I have Michelin XPS Ribs on my 5er. 16,000 miles, 6 years, never a low tire, ride great, and still look basically new. I typically add 2-3 psi to each tire in the spring and they are good for the rest of the season. Mine will age out before they wear out.

With the cost and frustration of having tire problems on the road, and compared to the purchase price of the truck and 5er, I felt the price of the Michelins was a small price to pay.

goodyear g614s....don't waste your time with other tires.

Check out the Geostar 574 14ply, ebay has them for a pretty good price, have 10k on our and still look new...

I changed from GY Wrangler US Made "E" to GY "G" the rims were 80psi rated. I ran the tires at 85 psi per GY Tech support. My load had the "E" tires maxed out required 80 psi for the load. GY says when up sizing use the charts based on load then add 5psi. The GY G's wore perfectly at that load and 85psi with many thousands of miles. Not worth sweating the extra 5psi on the rims!

Anyone going from E to G's and the load only requires 80psi and you run 110 you are going to have un unsafe, rough ride. Yes unsafe because the tread contact patch for braking will be reduced by over inflating the tires. Just ask GY.

Am I missing something with this post???? OP states that they can either get the "E" rated Michelin XPS or a "G" rated Sailun tire, but states they're both "OVERKILL":h "IF" they're both "overkill", then why recommend a G rated tire when an "E" will more than suffice??? Again, just going by the OP's own words? Don't get me wrong, if they can go with a G rated tire and all will be well with the world then have at it. But if an "E" is more than sufficient, then they're several that would more than suffice, ie the RIB's and the tire that Chris recommended, R250's...If OP has 6,000# rated axles, the E rated tires mentioned will be more than enough and be a very safe tire...

Again, comparing a G rated tire to an E rated tire isn't really a fair comparison to the E, of course the G will handle more weight...Both the Michelin and the Sailun are more than capable in their application and more so if one uses an E where a D was or a G where an E was...
