pbounds, you are surely behind the times.
However sometime during the rest of my life I may want to haul a full sheet of plywood and also slam the tail gate shut, so I hate my short bed. :R
Probably so, but, Ford offers a 48g tank. Long bed only.
I don't keep up with what the lesser brands offer. I only watch Varsity.
Well said Bill, and I might add that not only does the STANDARD bed come with a good sized tank, the Varsity truck also has a whopping 6'9" bed length.

I have a short bed, 2007 Chevy 2500HD. I am beginning to consider a new truck and was curious whether a long bed provides a more comfortable ride than the short bed?
No...wheelbase has more to do with a good ride.... up to a point.
Having owned several long and short beds with all type of cabs in commercial service and putting hundreds of thousands of miles behind the wheel non of my long bed has a superior ride over any of my short bed trucks.
You will differences in ride quality between these trucks especially some 2wd vs 4wd....... Fords Super Duty has three different RAWR packages with different spring packages.....year models/etc/etc.
The thing for you to do is drive the different wheelbase trucks with long and short beds and decide for yourself - Vette_RacerExplorerLong bed just because it has more room in the bed. When you add an aux fuel tank, 5th wheel hitch, a generator, extra propane tank, gas cans, leveling blocks and a few other misc items, maybe some firewood, even a long bed is out of room. Can't imagine living with a short bed!

- F-TROUPExplorerI've had a F250 SB new in 2001 no sliding hitch, mounted hitch 3" behind axle, never a problem while turning around.
- dpgllgExplorerMy last truck had a short bed and this one has a long bed.
Pros:
When backing 5th wheel into really tight spaces I don't have to worry about contacting the cab of the truck. Like when I back it in my driveway here at home.
I can put more stuff in bed of long bed such as a adult tricycle in front of the hitch.
On rough roads I think the long bed rides aa little better. How much is everyones opinion. Most might not even notice the differance.
Cons:
As an everyday driver parking is a little tougher especially backing out of tight spaces. That extra 2 feet can make it a little difficult. Don't really take it to the local Wal-Mart for that reason.
Will it fit in my garage. NO Older home
Will it fit in my daughters garage NO New home
Costs more for spray in liner or bed liner
In my old truck I did not have a slider and never hit the cab. I did have someone watching just in case. I would pick the length that works for you and go with it. Weather you get a slider hitch is up to you.
Dave - ppineExplorer IILong bed all the way.
F-150s now mostly come in short bed and really short beds.
I will be sleeping tonight in the back of my truck tonight at the Vaquero Festival. I do it all the time. How can you sleep in a 5 1/2 foot bed?
