- RedhoundExplorerHere is a video with some Mini cooks http://youtu.be/ZIgTkeR184A .
- hermyExplorerLot's of ways to go. The electric is simpler and less stuff to haul but most of my camping is nowhere near a power pedestal. I'd go for the LP or pellet type.
- jnharleyExplorerWe carry a Royalls Tailgater pellet grill. Wow, we have not cooked anything that has not turned out great. We did have to purchase a cargo carrier to store it in as it will not fit in our basement. Next up, turkey for Thanksgiving.
- GoostoffExplorerMasterbuilt awesome smoker
I have this one that I bought at Sams Club. It has a thermostat and timer, as well as remote control so you cen check the meat temp probe from the neighbors. It also has a light inside so if it gets dark on you the work can continue. - RedhoundExplorerWe keep a Big Green Egg - Mini with our 5er. We also have a Weber Q that rarely gets used. Love the Mini. If you Re just cooking for 2, it adds to the experience. If you have larger cooks, the bigger models could be cumbersome. A Small or Medium MIT be okay for one person to handle but a Mini is a perfect one person carry. There is a slight learning curve with the BGE but there is a lot of web support forums. I frequent the greeneggers forum. There are tons of Mini owners with blogs dedicated to cooking all things on the Mini. Veggies, steak, ribs, appetizers, cakes, pizza, soups/stews, seafood... Great accessory!

I use an 18.5" weber kettle grill on trips for grilling and smoking. It does double duty fairly well. Yes, more trouble and more work than electrics, but more flavor too!
Same here. I bought one of these and love it! Turn your Weber grill into a smoker - jesse_m_jmExplorer

Hardest thing in the world is to just leave it alone and let the smoke do it's work... - campinginthewooExplorerI camped several times last year and saw several using "pellet" smokers and stopped and talked with them and they loved them. One had his mounted on the rear of his fifth wheel. Sorry I don't remember the name off hand.....Every time I thought about checking it for him he would come back out darn it....:B
- fj12ryderExplorer IIIWe had a Mastercraft electric smoker and were not very happy with it after a while. The main problem with it was that it was so well insulated that the burner didn't come on often enough to keep the chips burning for good smoke. We had to jury-rig an add-on smoker for it to work very well.
If it was sitting in the sun in the summer the interior temperature would easily reach 140°. More than that if the outside temps were fairly high. We sold it and bought a propane smoker. Great smoke and easier to modulate the temperature than a charcoal/wood smoker. Keeping it within 5° of 230° is a snap.
