Not wanting to start a flame war here but have you considered the Automated Safety Hitch?? It is expensive but in my mind worth every penny. As you research it you'll find that most people that have negative opinions of it have never seen or used it. Every person I have spoken with that have used it swears by it. I am getting ready to purchase one for my F250. I spent an hour on the phone with the designer and was very impressed. It eliminates the weight issue by using an F450 axle and brakes on the dolly itself. It reduces stopping distance and helps with maneuverability. It removes all the weight from the rear axle of your truck. Per the company, my F250 could pull (remember now its pull...not haul and provides an F450 braking system in addition to your trucks) 26K lbs. It acts like a drop axle and is legal in every state and is NOT required to have a seperate license plate because it's not a trailer.
