Westlake is considered to be a brand of tires to avoid, according to CarsDirect. Tires such as Westlake, which are made in China, are alleged to be of substandard quality and have been the subject of forced recalls by the U.S. government.
Various state Attorneys General and the Federal Trade Commission have recalled Chinese tires such as Westlake because they have been deemed unsafe and unable to meet American standards of quality. Westlake tires are made by the China-based Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Company. The company's tires have been accused of lacking basic safety features such as gum strips that keep steel belts inside the tire from separating and damaging the rubber.

That was FOUR years ago. They now have tires (in certain sizes) that have the nylon cap-and have corrected issues such as you listed above. If your going to post information please make it current.
Yep, your Radial Trail RH were replaced with the new Radial Trail HD, why? - RjdreyerExplorerWhat is your GVWR of your rig. Think it is less than 12k. Thinking G-rated is overkill, resulting in a harsh ride, etc. Also is he going to give you proper rims? G rating need 110 psi rims. Look for a E or F rated 16 inch tire. I have E-rated Westlakes (16 inch tires) on my 2013 almost 12k fiver (Wildcat) and no problems at all. Air them up back up to 80 psi at the beginning of the camping season (about 3 - 5 psi) and keep them covered except on trips.
Think your Wildcat comes w/ 15 inch standard tires, go to a ST235/80R16 LRE 3520 lb tire. 14080 lb carrying capacity on tires. This is what is on mine.
http://lionsheadtireandwheel.com/Westlake-Radial-Tire - grampscamperExplorerI have Westlake tires on our Reflection. I've only owned it for 1 year so I can't speak from personal experience but I hear they're a reliable tire. I have no concerns using them.
- JohndanielscpaExplorerCKNSLS - I have heard the same thing. I saw a more current thread with many current owners indicating they have not had any problems with their tires. The Westlake tire problem seems like an older problem (circa 2009-2012).
- Jim102ExplorerThanks for all the information/opinions, I appreciate them....Now to make a decision..
Jim - HalmfamilyExplorerWe are going on three years with our Westlake tires and no issues. Our first fifth wheel had them and had no issues either. We check them before each trip and keep inflated to 85 psi. So far so good.
