Health Insurance Information?

Just starting our full time life and learned my husband will not be able to continue his company insurance after he leaves in May. We are making South Dakota our domicile and now find we need to get health insurance as well. While we domicile in SD, we would need something with nationwide coverage as we travel. We are 61 and 63 so not Medicare eligible yet. We can get Cobra for 18 months for $1300 a month. I have been searching online for other options but am not having much luck.
If anybody out there has any suggestions on good companies to check out, we sure would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

  • We're in a similar situation and full-time out of Texas. We were covered by Cobra for $1100 a month until this past January. I couldn't find anything nationwide for under $1900 a year, so we took an HMO for $1000 a month and are basically self insured as we travel. If something major non-emergency comes up, we'd have to go back to TXfor treatment. We may consider changing states as I don't see things getting better.
  • South Dakota is the worst state for full timers health insurance-wise. Texas has a few more options, Florida is pretty good.

A useful website is RV Insurance Exchange. they provide information on options and what problems you may face.
