Medicare Medigap and Drug Plan D for fullltimers

The topic has come up that NON Medicare fulltimers are having trouble getting health Ins under ACA in SD.
It seems the ACA Ins carriers are requiring you to actually prove you have a physical address in SD.
Now my question...
Have you as a Medicare fulltimer with a Medigap plan and Medicare drug plan D had to state you have physical address in SD.
Or did they just take your SD mail forwarding address and sign you up?
The reason I ask is I am now a fulltimer in SD and on Medicare and my retired from company has provided their own Medicare supplemental and drug plan.
But on May 1 the company is moving us to a Medicare Medigap and Drug Plan D of our choice and they will reimburse us through a HRA account.

  • I still would like to know how the homeless people manage to get all the government assistance that they do? THEY don't have a problem at all.

I had to stay at a less than desirable CG waiting for repairs. Had a couple that kept asking to use my computer because of an emergency which I let them do. The emergency was to sign on to keep their checks and food stamps coming......"general delivery" to a CG. :R
  • Really would like to hear some useful resolution to this; ie, how best to handle it. Thought it was only us fulltimers/intended fulltimers who were affected, but in one of the forums referenced above was a service member who's dealt with this for years.

Does it seem to work to give them one's current actual physical address (park, etc), even if it's not in the same state as one's mailing address? Has anyone found that to be a problem?
  • It's getting harder and harder to use UPS stores and mailbox services for "physical address" purposes. Banks verifying actual residency has been Federal Law for years- ever since The Patriot Act was passed. But now that the internet provides the means to cross check addresses to what actually exists at the given location they're really having to crack down.

Lots of folks have received letters from their banks asking for real addresses, often combined with assertions that the account(s) will be closed if no verifiable address is provided. Here's a link to one of many current online discussions of this phenom.

I realize this doesn't presently have anything to do with the ACA, but it's likely to do so in the future. Dunno where this will leave folks with pretend domiciles etc.- guess time will tell!
  • I switched to using a "USPS Store" address. (NOT the US post office)

It's a physical address and they provide you with a number that is added to address with a # sign NOT a po box number. And they have all the same forwarding services, etc. you need. I find them very accommodating.

Social Security was just fine with my new address.

SD is very well known as being used for RV'ers. We all knew it would be just a matter of time until the gov stepped in to make it difficult. TX is having it's problems also regarding vehicle registrations/residency.

There are 'USPS Stores' ALL over in all the states. They are privately owned. Pick a state! I picked a state that had the least amount of taxes charged for income and no emission testing.
