Ok Ladies... Fingernail Help!

Hi all you beautiful full timer ladies out there! Need some advice on a women's issue.
We are 494 days away ( but who's counting ) from finally giving up the sticks and bricks and heading out full time!
I have a petty issue but it has left we wondering over the last few months on what avenue to take on this.
In all my working years I have had an overlay of acrylic on my nails due to the thinness and tearability of my own. ...... My quandry is what to do when we are full timing. I would love to give them up but when I dont have them, I feel hindered in doing things because I am so used to them.....
We will 100% on the road ( no family to visit for weeks or months ) and plan on moving around quite a bit.
I have considered buying the needed equiptment to do them myself... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

  • If you have had them for years, maybe it is time to see if there are now products on the market that will allow you to have stronger nails without the acrylics. I wouldn't want to mess with trying to find somewhere to have my nails done every few weeks.

You are going to have many other things to get used when you start fulltiming, maybe this is just one more thing to add to that list. If it doesn't work out without them, you can always try something else.
  • I use the internet to find hair salons, nail salons, etc. There are nail shops all over the place. I usually find one that has good recommendations online, or ask a female in the park office for a recommendation. I would plan on being near a city when it's time to get your nails done and stay a couple of nights during the week when the shops aren't busy. I shouldn't be a problem at all.
  • I've had to deal with this while we're on our 2-month trip. Last summer while on our trip I bravely walked into places I knew nothing about and had them done. They were good experiences, and my nails came out great. This time, I've been hesitant for some reason, so finally pulled all the acrylic off and said the heck with it. Actually, the longer they're off, the more freeing it feels, and trust me, I LOVE nice nails, so I'm not sure what I'll do when I get home. I've also had the same problem with a hair cut and hair color. Other than going gray, which isn't going to happen, I don't know how to solve that one.
  • Clip them nails short...easier to clean after dumping tanks :B

GF had long hair when we hit the road......couple months later it was cut short, nails were cut short and her life became easier.

    Side benefit.....so did mine :B

Full Timing is all about making life simpler so that more enjoyment can be had
  • I think woodglue has the right idea... I had the acrylic overlays for a long while because my nails are thin are tear easy, but I found it was scary going to a different place to have my nails done... some were much more aggressive with their buffing and working on my cuticles.. besides the sally hansen stuff. Avon has a hardner that doesn't make your nails shiny and won't peel like the polish type. It is a liquid that goes on and soaks into your nails.. it's called strong results. I really like it and it doesn't get chipped when you use your hands to do things.
  • Lol.. Richard wants to know if they will pull his man card if anyone sees or hears about it ? :-)
  • Cheryl,

Buy the equipment and you and Richard can learn how to do your nails.

It just might be a bunch of fun.
  • I'd just give them up and go for a strong "nail strengthener" like Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails or something similar. Run a coat over them each day and on the 7th, use some nail polish remover and start all over again. I think that after 3 weeks of not having them, that the hindrance won't be there anymore. Just a guess on my part!

That's my take on it anyway!
