Allow me to vent

I am sorry to hear this has happened to you. I do understand your frustration but I think you would have to agree that the tow companies have more of an obligation to rescue people that are stuck on the side of the road. When it is -7 I would guess there were allot of people that were broke down on the side of the road or in the ditch due to black ice. If I were safe at home and called for assistance I would rather have them help people in life threatening positions rather than come to my home to take off a flat tire! I actually did have this happen to a car in my driveway that was not started here in MN and this car was needed to drive to work as well but this was not life threatening so I waited for better weather and we made due with one car.

When I was stuck in a friends yard with my RV Good SAM said the tow company said 2 hours before they could get to me. On the two hour mark Good Sam called to see if they had arrived yet. I told them no and they put me on hold and called the company. The company said they were on the way but traffic was heavy. They did show up 20 minutes later and 15 minutes later they had me out. On the one hour mark Good Sam called again to confirm they had arrived. It had been snowing and the roads were messy. Guess I have been lucky so far that I have only needed them once in 5 years.

Agree. Good Sam has standing arrangements with the tow companies. The least the tow company could do is call the guy at home and tell him that they will take care of road emergencies first and then respond to him. Why let him hang all day/night? Lack of any communication is what really ticks me off in cases like this. Keep the customer informed.

Yes, I was whining. Yes, I know there were stranded people that needed help and I have no problem with them getting service before me.

Yes, I could have changed the tire. In fact I did finally change it once it was apparent that no tow truck would be arriving in time to get the van back on the road so my wife could get to work. For the snarky remark about being in bed, I was not being lazy laying in bed. I had to leave work and had to take a half day of vacation to do it.

Please note that the temps at the time were -7. I am not a youngster anymore. I pay Good Sam good money year after year so that they can handle these types of situations for me.

Toronto airport over 3500 flights cancelled Airport is full of passengers, some being told it could be 3-4 days before they will be able to depart due to backups, some airplanes stuck on tarmac loaded with passengers and had to be refuelled while passengers kept on overnight.

And you think that you have it bad.

I would say with the given temperature, that there were numerous calls of stranded people. Also probably more accidents than normal. Any snow? That would also make a difference. Given that, I don't think 5 hrs to come and change a flat to be all that bad. Even after a couple hours and no one showing up, you could of changed it. Would it of been worth going out there and doing it? Or was it worth to wait a few more hours in your warm home and let someone else do it?

With -7*F temps your wife is a smart lady by driving on that flat tire and getting home vs being stranded out on the road.

Give her a big hug, snuggle up with a warm drink and count your blessings.
